Panasonic DMR-EZ48VK review: Panasonic DMR-EZ48VK

Editors' note (February 17, 2010): Panasonic has indicated that it plans to continue selling this 2008 model through the 2010 model year.

Outstanding DVD-recording quality, with a best-in-class LP mode; flexible recording speed; chasing playback with DVD-RAM discs; USB port and SDHC card slot for playback of MP3, DivX, and JPEG files; upscales DVD to 1080p; VHS-to-DVD dubbing for home...

VHS operations are a bit slow; expensive; no Blu-ray compatibility.

Outstanding recording quality, tons of features, and a built-in digital TV tuner make the Panasonic DMR-EZ48VK an excellent all-purpose DVD and VHS recorder.

Panasonic Diga DMR-EZ48VK

The Panasonic DMR-EZ48VK is an easy to use recorder that also has decent picture quality. It is would be ideal for someone who has old VHS tapes and needs to transfer them to DVD without much fuss. It is a solid machine at a reasonable price.

Panasonic DMR-EZ48V review

Panasonic's feature-light combi recorder keeps VHS on life support

Operating system ; Recording quality

No series recording ; No USB port ; No SD card slot or DivX playback

Not up to Panasonic's usual high standards, but the EZ48V makes VHS-to-DVD archiving an absolute breeze

Panasonic DMR-EZ48V DVD / VHS Recorder

Banish those VHS tapes once and for all with the freeview-enabled Panasonic DMR-EZ48V recorder.

The operating system revolves around the Functions menu, which boasts a blissfully simple layout. From here you can access the Setup menu, which covers every conceivable option, as well as the Timer recording schedule and the Copy menu. The latter runs...

"Don't, it freezes constantly"

Tonight, we tried to add recordings for which there was plenty of room on the disk which worked before we left. Came home to "disc improperly formatted" So we not only lost the program scheduled tonight, but the last two nights also. I had replayed...

Features, but the unit rarely works

The unit constantly malfunctions. It is very slow to accept and register settings. It can take 5-10 minutes to power on just to insert or change disk. It frequently must be unplugged and allowed to reset.

Panasonic DMR-EZ48VK DVD/VCR Combo

I had Sony's comparable RDR-VXD655 for a week before comparing the DMR-EZ48VK. Immediately, I noticed the quality of the build, which is solid and not flimsy as with the Sony, Samsung, or LG units. - To schedule a recording is very easy. Just press...

Picture Quality; Build Quality; 1080P Up Conversion; Lots of Inputs; Large Clock Display; User Friendly

Size (slightly bigger than the Sony, Samsung, and LG but smaller than a Toshiba)

Panasonic DMR-EZ48VK DVD/VCR Combo

You don't want to own one of these. I can't believe how difficult it was to record, never could figure out how to produce a menu on the recorded dvd, only could put on 2 hrs on at dvd from a 6 hr vhs movie. VERY slow to start up, very slow to change...

Panasonic DMR-EZ48VK DVD/VCR Combo

This unit had great potential for replacing my VHS for timeshifting with my outside antenna. Unfortunately, it has come to the point that I must unplug the power cord each time I want to time shift, otherwise the unit freezes up-locks up and won't...

LOTS of Options

Timer recorder freezes up, not reliable for time shifting, complicated, very poor customer relations, won't convert digital TV signal to analog VHS for recording

Panasonic DMR-EZ48VK DVD/VCR Combo

this is the exact machine as the EZ485VK, except this one doesn't come with an HDMI cable; their instruction manuals are one and the same; both are easy to operate, and the recorded images are very clear on dvd, fairly clear on vhs; would definitely...

clarity of video from hdmi upconversion on dvd playback; ease of converting vhs tapes onto dvd

takes a few seconds to turn on, so if you need to record something immediately(like a funny commercial),you might miss a small segment; this is not an issue if you have Viera Link - a Panasonic TV

Panasonic DMR-EZ48VK DVD/VCR Combo

Help me out here, folks. Am I the only person left who timeshifts with the VCR? I do it every day. A DVD-RW works too, (I'm using that now) but it takes five clicks thru three menus to format a disk; which you have to do before recording. Much less...

good ergonomics in the remote; top quality recording

WILL NOT RECORD DIGITAL BROADCAST TO VCR
