Sparkling HD pictures make this this Freeview HD, 3D-compatible Blu-ray playing Skype box a treat

Sparkling images from all sources ; All-in-one appeal ; Extensive archiving options

Freeview HD EPG ; 320GB HDD too small ; Fragmented user interface ; No iPhone app

Panasonic DMR-BWT700 review

Panasonic's latest brainy box has so many functions we're not quite sure what to call it. Back in the 1980s my Dad refused to buy a new TV, a VHS recorder, computer or any games systems, believing that there would soon be one device for the lounge that...

HD pics, archiving functions, 3D Blu-ray

No Wi-Fi, complicated, lacks BBC iPlayer, small HDD

Adept with all dimensions of Blu-ray and Freeview HD, and exceptionally kind to DVD, the BWT700 is a superb chunk of home cinema heaven, but its occasionally clumsy and complex user interface mars its extensive archiving and storage skills

Panasonic DMR-BWT700 review

Panasonic's hard disk/Blu-ray recorders hark back to the day when video recording meant people could lend VHS tapes to friends and family, who'd missed an episode of Twin Peaks or the Christmas day broadcast of Back To The Future on BBC1.

Versatile Freeview PVR; 3D BD playback

Unimpressive with multimedia; dated-looking menus; complex operating system

Panasonic's Freeview HD-equipped Blu-ray/HDD recorder can't quite recreate the magic of its bigger brothers but still proves its worth as a top-drawer entertainment hub.

Lots of features ; Superb picture quality from all sources ; Extensive recording and editing functionality

Cluttered EPG ; Disjointed menus ; Viera Cast content

The rear panel is adorned with a useful array of sockets, but it lacks the second HDMI output found on the BWT800. That’s potentially bad news for owners of AV receivers that can’t handle 3D signals via HDMI, as you can’t pipe 3D pictures and HD audio...

Panasonic DMR-BWT700 review

The Panasonic DMR-BWT700 is the most sophisticated Blu-ray recorder we've seen so far, combining fine 2D and 3D Blu-ray performance with versatile recording options. It's not particularly intuitive, though.

Fine Blu-ray playback ; Supports 1080p 3D ; Viera Cast online portal includes Skype

Complicated to use ; Limited file support when streaming from a network-attached storage drive ; 320GB hard drive is slightly stingy

The Panasonic DMR-BWT700 overflows with functionality. But this sophistication is paired with a displeasing level of complexity. You will definitely have to refer to the manual.

Panasonic is the only company with Blu-ray recorders on the market, making it the go-to brand for people who want to record HD TV content onto high-capacity Blu-ray platters. But, does the DMR-BWT700's 3D recording capability make it a good investment...

Panasonic DMR-BWT700 HDD and Blu-ray recorder combo

Review Panasonic has a reputation for building digital TV recorders that have impressive features, but are about as user friendly as an angry dominatrix. Maintaining at least one tradition here, the DMR-BWT700 certainly doesn't skimp on the feature...

Indeed, it’s a shame Panasonic hasn’t made made any significant changes to the user experience, including those godforsaken EPG ads. Given what you get on the company's tellies the internet services and digital media streaming support should be better...

Panasonic DMR-BWT700EB 3D Blu-ray Player

Fully featured does most everything you could ask of a BluRay 3D DDV,, PVR recorder, the interface can be a little difficult working out what does what, but you soon start to find your way around.

Excellent picture quality in 2d and 3d, full of features

Internet apps - why only BBCi player, lets have ITV, Chan 4, 5 etc
