Systemic errors in E55

We bought about a dozen for our business, Dub King Video. We find consistant, although they would occasionally work, errors during finalization. When finished, the menus display only partially.

The Price is reasonable

A poor performance DVD recorder

This unit got poor rf reception. I have to record the TV show to my sony VCR than copy to this unit. Double work.

have 3 inputs to use

only can record on DVD-R, or DVD-ram

I like this DVD recorder but was suprised at a few missing features that I thought would be standard

Aside from being surprised that there are a few of what I would expect as standard features missing on this machine, the DMR-E55 seems to be of good mechanical quality and does a decent job of recording.

Easy to navigate through on-screeen menus, nice video quality on XP and SP recordings

No "last position" memory and no repeating event timer recording option

Excellent DVD player for the price

Pros: Fairly easy to use. Works pretty much like a VCR. Includes a TV tuner. Some of the functions and set up options require reading the manual. Nice picture and sound, just like you'd expect from DVD. The DVD RAM is pretty awesome. It works like a

Wouldn't record on DVD-R disks I bought in a stack. Had to purchase Panaconic DVDs in slim cases. Wish I'd bought the unit with the hard drive so I could record from video tape, edit, and then burn to DVD. With this unit, what you record to DVD-R is the

Good for camcorder tape transfer

I purchased this solely to transfer my old Hi8 tapes to DVD media. It has done an acceptable job of doing that. Relatively easy to use as long as you're willing to do some experimenting on your own. The video quality on SP setting is quite good, compar

Very limited editing. You have to stop the recording at just the right moment in order to split your recording into chapters, otherwise it will automatically do it every 5 minutes or so but not really in chapter format. Since you're recording onto DVD-R

A frustrating machine.

The picture quality is outstanding for DVD-R and DVD-RAM recording. Some other nice editing features

Finalizing DVD-R fails most of the time. I have to shut it down and restart to finalize. In a few cases, the recording arbitrarily stops spoiling the disk. I'm forced to sit there and watch the entire recording process. Manual is mediocre. Panasonic's cus

A great DVD recorder at this price!

Use of DVD-Ram discs, very good picture quality, Panasonic reputation, great value for the price

No Dolby 5.1 audio, use with a cable box or satellite receiver makes VCR Plus useless, very poorly written manual
