Nothing about this recorder works properly. What a hugh disappointment. I use to be a big supporter of Panasonic. Not anymore. Put your money elsewhere.

The box it came in was nice

Poor quality in every way. It is completely unreliable

My Panasonic worked well for two years, but it the finalizing menu for dvd discs vanished from the unit. Also prevented me from going into the setup menu to find a solution or even change the time. Even after unplugging the unit to try to reset the...

I have used this product for about 15 months and everything worked well. I typically use the DVD for recording TV program on disc. However, it stopped working last week (after the 12 months warranty expired). I am getting "No read on disc" error and a...

Can't get over the lack of quality in this unit. Not user friendly whatsoever. Cannot read DVD-R discs recorded on a PC that my other players read without incident. Cannot even read store bought discs without saying disc error. Panasonic should recall...

Has many useful features

Implementation and user interface is extremely poor

Obviously, the manual is the big problem with this thing. If I could decipher it, I could tell you if there were any pros or cons. Every single step for any given function is written in Yoda. That's both in the manual, and within the system.

Gee, Ma, I can record with it

Convoluted Manual, Functions, and Incomplete Remote

DVD drive failed after 1-1/2 years

This served my needs for dubbing VHS to DVD, but the infamous U61 error (call your service center) appeared after only 22 months of usage. The unit will no longer play DVDs. So after paying approximately $280 for the unit, I basically paid $12/month...

Good but frustrating

Seems like a good unit. Works as advertised. But some features are very frustrating. Command response is SLOW. Press a button and wait and wait for something to happen. The controls are complicated. Be prepared to refer to the manual A LOT. And the...

Don't buy this one.

The longer I own this unit the less I like it. Command response is SLOW. Press a button and wait and wait for something to happen. Timed recording is iffy. Sometimes it records sometimes it doesn't. I am about ready to replace it with something else.

Absolutely FANTASTIC!

Absolutely FANTASTIC!

I needed to save dozens of home made VHS tapes dating back to 1983! EACH ONE played perfectly in this deck. I transferred each to an included DVD RAM dis WITHOUT TROUBLE OF ANY KIND! The internal menu settings I routed through my computer monitor (I...

Product Specifications

You sit down to watch this week's episode of your favorite show and realize that you never got around to watching your recording of last week's episode. Not a problem with Time Slip, featuring simultaneous record and play. Select this week's episode in the program guide, start recording, and as it records you can watch your recording of last week's episode. What if you set up your DVD recorder to record a movie from 8:00 to 10:00 while you're out, but dinner was faster than you expected and you get home early? With the Chasing Playback feature, you don't have to wait for the program to finish recording in order to watch it. You can begin watching the portion of the program that has already been saved while the DVD recorder continues recording the remainder of the program. If you own a VCR, it's almost certain that at some point someone has accidentally recorded over a movie or show that you wanted to keep. One-Touch Record will save your favorite programs from the same fate by automatically scanning the disc for blank space before starting the recording process. No more worries that your favorite sitcom's season finale will be overwritten by a family member's Sunday fishing show. You and your family are sure to enjoy the convenience of your DVD recorder so much that you'll have a large library of recordings in no time. Keeping track of all those programs would be difficult if it weren't for the enhanced Direct Navigator, which displays thumbnails of every program on the disc as you browse, making it easy to identify the contents of each recording. It can be heartbreaking when you play an old VHS home video and find that years of playback have degraded the image and sound quality. Preserve your precious VHS tapes by transferring them to DVD, which will provide durability and many years of enjoyment. With One-Touch 2-Way Transfer, you can dub a VHS tape to DVD by pushing a single button. The goal of any playback device should be accurate reproduction of the original content. In the case of DVDs, most of that content is film-based. Utilizing advanced progressive scan playback techniques and very accurate MPEG video decoders, this DVD recorder provides an image that faithfully represents the image you see at your favorite movie theater.
