DirectTV - Criminals

All though DirectTV service is in my opinion better than cable. Their polocies, and customer service really lag behind.

Performs a little better than ther hr22's, and the larger hard drive is a plus. It is their best reciever yet. However HR24 is coming soon, and from what I understand has a much faster CPU, and completely banishes the poor performance experienced in...

In order to activate DirectTV obligated me to another 2 years of service. I was surprised, and dissapointed by this

THIS IS A LEASE

LOOKS GOOD, BUT SENT BACK DUE TO THE FACT THAT IT WAS NOT DISCLOSED THAT THIS WAS A LEASE AND NOT A PURCHASE

ONCE YOU CALL AND ACTIVATE THIS, DIRECTV AUTOMATICALLY EXTENDS YOUR CONTRACT 2 YEARS. THIS IS NOT A PURCHASE

great equipment

As a former employee of directv yes the equipment is leased, end of story. If you look on the box it comes in it clearly says "Attention: This receiver is a leased product..." On the access card package it states that by opening it, you agree to the...

Good size hard drive can even add external one. Nice networking capabilities

Yes, sometimes the menu and remote responses move real slow

Consumer review by:

same as you get from directv

it's a great deal when on sale. directv installers charge a service fee to deliver a hd box to you if you order it from them

it is HD has lots of space on it. expandable with an esata external hdd. looks good

it is a lease. you technically don't own the box. some tv's can't be programmed into the remote to function 100

This receiver is slow as molasses

I kid you not. Many times it is 5 seconds + to change a channel. Reboots, firmware updates, nothing helps. I have no idea what would be a better choice, but I ABSOLUTELY would not buy (lease?) this unit. Direct TV really missed the boat on this one.

HD output. Large HD. All outputs active at the same time. MVR support. External HD expansion

Absolutely unacceptably slow response from the remote and front panel

regrettable

After speaking with several people at both newegg and directv, i finally found out that you DO actually own this box if you buy it here. NOBODY at directv was sure about it (so ignore that review buy the guy who claims to work for directv), but after...

I guess there are some features with this model that older models don't have, however, I have not found a need for any of these features as of yet ; You DO own it

seems to be much slower than my HR10 as far as navigating through menus and guides

Great receiver

5lnb dish is needed if you want to get all of the HD channels. On Demand requires internet and its gotta be pretty quick (6mb+) if you want it to really be "on demand". Otherwise you will need to download the day before you want to watch something....

Large Hard Drive. All the ports you need in the back. Easy access to change resolution. Installation was a snap

Unit is a bit large. No wireless card built in

Hardware unit is adequate, but DirecTv service and support is the worst!

cons cont... - The DVR would hang regularly and despite mulitple requests with their support, they assured me each time the DVR hardware passed all remote diagnostics and the hardware was fine. I finally decided to give up when a competitor offer Fiber...

On average, the picture quality was fantastic. Channels that broadcast in HD with high quality, multiple channel audio was very impressive. Over a year ago, DirecTV was definately ahead of the curve with the sheer amount of available HD programming but...

Despite the mixed info on here, DirecTv forces you into a lease on ALL equipment. Info from Newegg is incorrect, DirecTv not only forces you to "purchase" the receiver to subsidize their equipment costs, their current Terms Of Service states that...

Own or Lease

I bought the HR23 and it works perfectly. I checked this issue with Directv before purchasing and if you buy one from NewEgg you do indeed own the unit it is not a lease. You are still subject to the Directv monthly charge for using the HD-DVR, you...

No cons

Lease or not, I like it

Inspite of what anybody tells you, this is a leased product; it says so right on the box. When I spoke to a person at Directv, I was told no matter where you get it, it is a lease unless you paid about $600 for it. I like tha because the reason I need...

I love the features. This is a major upgrade over my old DVR
