RCA DTA800

The DTV transition has been pushed back several times already, but it looks as if over-the-air analog TV signals will officially be turned off on February 17, 2009. That means owners of analog TV will need to pony up for a DTV converter box if they...

Solid video quality and reception; excellent remote, especially for those with poor eyesight; easy-to-use basic EPG; works with Smart Antennas.

No guided setup; initial setup can be a bit tricky; composite video cable not included.

Good reception, respectable video quality, and a basic EPG make the RCA DTA800 an excellent DTV converter box, despite some slightly tricky setup snags.

RCA has horrible customer service.

I will NEVER buy RCA again!

Cheap, instructions in English

I am only getting three stations and the ones I get are constantly interrupted by "need to adjust antenna ; I have called customer service but everyone I talk to gives me another number to call. One rude woman was explaining in language I couldn't underst

"Will shut down at random times"

It was easier for me to rig a switch between my TV, VCR and this box just to keep it simple. This model tends to get very hot ,do not place on top of another appliance .I would not recommend this model to anyone.

Not hard to program and that's good cause you will be doing it a lot.

I purchase 2 of these and its a good thing I did . At any moment it will quit working I believe due to over heating .I now keep 2nd box nearby but not plug up. Don't forget there is a very small switch for channels 3 & 4

Piece of Crap

This is the biggest piece of electronic junk that I have ever owned. It freezes up randomly. It won't stay on. I can't even get it to turn on. It has a yellow light (meaning standby) and then when I press the power it turns off. Every new moon when it...

Good when works ; Suspense of thinking when will it work

Turns off randomly ; Doesn't stay on ; Freezes up

"Best converter box I've used"

The DTA800B1 should be a good upgrade, as you can just add new stations rather than rescan all stations. I would have liked the TV antenna passthrough during the conversion period, but it no big deal. Technically the DTA800 and the Channel Master are...

I've got th RCA DTA 800 and the Channel Master. Both receive the same stations, but I like the features of the RCA better. Simple easy to use remote. Large Menu screen fonts, which is good for same screen TVs.

Down side no jump button on the remote to switch between two stations easily. I tried the RCA smart antenna with the unit and it did pull in a few more station than just rabbit ears. But is wasn't as good has my attic antenna. Size matters.

Product Specifications

Designed for consumers who have a favorite analog TV, or perhaps one built into a custom-made cabinet, RCA introduces a new Digital TV Adapter that easily receives terrestrially broadcast digital TV signals and converts them for display on a conventional analog TV. Designed to easily receive over-the-air ATSC standard-definition and high-definition terrestrial broadcasts, the DTA800 will come equipped with a remote control unit and the ability to provide on-screen program information sent by local TV broadcasters to easily identify details about TV programming. The DTA800 is designed solely to receive digital TV signals with an over-the-air antenna and will convert those signals into analog for display through a TV set
