"I actually own this thing - and it works great!"

It would have cost me about $1000 for a Fiber...

It's simple to setup and works great. Nothing to do really, just plug it into the receiver with a good HDMI cable. Plug the receiver into the Sony TV. And it works. I am using this over a 60ft line of site connection

No 1080p, but I use it to watch TV...no 1080p transmission. And I have another HDTV and blue-ray play doing 1080p...not much difference

Works well for me, but "your mileage may vary" (a lot!)

Works well for me, but "your mileage may vary" (a lot!)

It's somewhat amazing that this DVR and its little brother the DHG-HDD5250 are still listed on Amazon (via third-party sellers), and they're selling for good prices on eBay, even though Sony discontinued them in November 2005. They've developed a cult...

Sony 60 Hour HD DVR

Sony 60 Hour HD DVR

I was already an owner of a Sony DHG-HDD250 (30 hour HD capacity recording). I wanted a second Sony to use not only as a recorder, but for its NTSC digital tuner (these Sony tuners provide excellent video). I found this HDD500 on Amazon after trying...

Impressive technology and simple to use

I am very happy with this Sony DVR. The HD recording is very easy and the playback is perfect. Capacity (at least with the 500) is not a problem either. I would definitely recommend this product.

Outstanding image quality and control, minor drawbacks

After reviewing people's comments, it seems that those who read the manual (so they know how to set it up and use all its features) get a lot out of the unit. Those that don't know the unit's functions think it is so-so or lousy. Here is the bottom...

Great Unit if you do your homework

Great Unit if you do your homework

I have used the Sony DHG-HDD500 for over a year now. I did have to read some internet forums when I first bought the device to figure out the EPG. In the Los Angeles area, the program guide is downloaded on analog channel 28. When I turned off all the...

Long-term Experience

Writing this mainly because of the complaints I have seen. After 14 mo. of useage, it is easily the best machine I have owned; in fact I was checking on buying another or more-advance version. It has all the quality of my JVC HD tape recorder (viewed...
