RDR-VX515 DVD Recorder/vcr

Sony's RDR-VX515 is a combination DVD and VHS unit that packs some cutting-edge components: It's one of just two recorders we tested for or January 2006 roundup (the other being the Pioneer DVR-633HS) to support dual-layer discs, which increase the...

The RDR-VX515 lacks support for VCR Plus+ codes or any other scheme for automatically scheduling recordings. You have to manually enter recording details, including those for each instance of a program you wish to record regularly. The recorder does...

Sony RDR-VX515 review: Sony RDR-VX515

Supports all four DVD formats plus double-layer DVD+R discs; easy-to-use menus; decent editing options; outputs VHS via component-video; FireWire input.

No S-Video input in back; so-so recording quality for VHS-to-DVD dubs; poorly designed remote; no IR blaster or VCR Plus functionality.

Sony's RDR-VX515 VHS-DVD recorder combo scores big with its support for double-layer DVD+R discs but drops the ball with its so-so VHS-to-DVD dubbing quality.

Convenient for copying old VHS to DVD

My wife bought this product for us for Christmas, as she was tired of seeing the ever-expanding VHS collection taking over so many bookshelves. After she bought the product, I looked at the reviews here at epinions and found that several of them ...

A piece of garbage

I've had this recorder for more than a year - I should have returned it when I had the chance. It's rare when something actually records as expected, and that goes for recordings from TV and from VHS to DVD dubs. Most times, the video/audio freezes 3/4...

Easy to install

Poor recording quality - if it records at all

A GOOD but VERY Challenging novelty- Sony's RDR-VX515 DVD/VCR Recorder may save your day!

UPDATE: I have changed my mind. After successfully updating our clunky VHS Copies of "ShowBoat - 1936" and "ShowBoat -1988" movies; I am much more impressed by the utility of this type of AV Recorder. The 1936 Version came from a Turner Classic Movies ...

Excellent Playback Capabilities- Records DVD to VHS & ViceVersa, or from external video/audio sources.

A novel, very challenging device- very poorly organized user manual.
