Sony SVR-HDT1000 review

Do you want a digital TV recorder that bundles all manner of extra gadgetry onboard, such as Blu-ray player, Smart IPTV functionality and media streaming? Or do you want a simple PVR with a big enough hard drive to let you Series Link without fear?

Huge HDD; quiet operation; archiving to external HDD; music and photo jukebox functionality

No smart portal or video playback on USB; no on-box display

Stunning HD pictures and a massive 1TB of storage, but limited functionality

Stunning HD picture ; clear set-up menus ; massive 1TB of storage

Disappointing BBC iPlayer picture ; EPG’s look and standard-def pics could be better

No internet portal It’s packing an ethernet socket, but the HDT1000 doesn’t feature Sony’s Bravia Internet Video portal. On-demand and catch-up content is extremely limited, therefore – but you can still access BBC iPlayer through the red button.

a little sad

Yes, a bit clunky on running at first, this did improve to a point it was ok. THE FAN NOISE becomes more and more intrusive. I have computers of far more power that make less fuss. Spoils the viewing and will be going back.
