Review: TiVo Stream

The little, black, Roku-style box plugs into your router, then streams or downloads shows from your TiVo to your iPod, iPad, or iPhone.

Streams and downloads TiVo recordings to your iOS device. Extremely good video quality. Supports up to three simultaneous streams from a single DVR. Integrates nicely with existing TiVo app

Not cheap. Lengthy setup process. Copy-protected recordings can’t be downloaded. Downloads take time and require your mobile device to stay on. Can’t stream live TV in the traditional sense. Works only with late-model, Ethernet-connected TiVos. No...

TiVo Stream

If you're a middle-aged television junkie like me, you likely devote much of your free time to whittling away at the endless list of recorded shows on your DVR. If that DVR happens to be a TiVo Premiere, you might have some extra help. TiVo Stream...

Lets you stream and download programming from your TiVo Premiere DVR to an iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch. Good streaming video quality. Supports up to three simultaneous streams from a single DVR

Expensive, considering some cable companies offer similar features in free apps that don't require extra hardware. Requires a wired connection to router. A great deal of content we tried to download was copy protected

If you have a Premiere DVR, TiVo Stream lets you download and stream video to your Apple mobile devices, but a high price, the need for extra hardware, and some copy-protection limitations keep it from being a must-have.

Great picture quality ; Responsive user interface ; Simple setup

Expensive for what it does ; Only compatible with iOS devices

The TiVo Stream works as advertised, but seems more like a feature that should be built into the DVR, as opposed to a standalone $129 accessory.

TiVo Stream review: TiVo Stream

The TiVo Stream is another step in the company's continued push to make its DVRs more of a whole-home solution.

The TiVo Stream lets you easily stream and download programs wirelessly from your TiVo DVR to an iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch. Setup and operation are simple.

The Stream currently only works with iOS devices, and the app functionality could be more robust. It has TiVo Premiere support only and requires a wired Internet connection for the DVR and Stream.

For TiVo Premiere owners with iOS devices, the TiVo Stream is a cool addition to your AV setup and mobile life.

"The "Must-Have" TiVo Accessory"

We recently "cut the cord" and ditched cable TV. Our TiVo Premiere and TiVo Stream provide all free TV entertainment we could ever need. The TiVo Stream and TiVo App for iPad are "gotta' have it" accessories - they let us enjoy our shows throughout the...

Dead simple to use and enjoy

None - It just works.

"Best Christmas present ever from my techie mate!"

I didn't think TiVo service could get any better but TiVo Stream is an amazing product that adds a whole new dimension to viewing.

I can watch favorite programs and news on my IPad in any room in the house, on the patio or download them to watch anywhere else. I'm a news junkie who is now no longer tied to the sofa!

None at all. None!

The main reason I purchased the TiVo Stream was to be able to take my recorded tv shows with me on vacation on my iPad. The TiVo Stream does this and more! I love being able to sit outside on my deck and stream shows from my TiVo in the living room. I...

Slick product! Easy-to-use, great video quality, works just like my TiVo.

Your Tivo needs to be physically wired to your network.

"Quality Video and Audio."

Much more responsive than the slingbox since it ties directly to the TiVo.

I mainly wanted to stream directly from my TiVo to my iPad and iPhone. TiVo Stream does this with absolutely great quality. It's a nice bonus to be able to transfer shows that I can take with me on the go. Excellent integration with the TiVo App.

Has to 'record' to watch a 'live' stream.
