A reason performance but poor user interface

 

Having this unit for 2 weeks, my feeling with this machine is mixed. I have a HDTV tuner and connect it via S-video to record OTA HDTV broadcast. Since the signal is down converted to SDTV signal, you wouldn't expect to see great images. But Toshiba...

Toshiba DVD recorder D-R5 does it promised to do. But, its user interface is clumsy and the manual is not well organized and not very helpful

Although I believe many problem of the user interface may not be unique to D-R5, it is just not friendly. Every time you finish a recording, you need to finalize the DVD-R or DVD-RW. You have to go down 3 steps in the OSD with many move-down pushes....

Wouldn't recommend!

 

I really like Toshiba's products, however, I have not seen very many "good" comments on their home DVD recorder products. Because this was just released (2/25/06) I thought things may have changed. Think again. Also, this unit does not record to "+" R/RW.

I don't see a whole lot of pro's except perhaps the specs

The RF-Coax is a straight pass through. I still can't figure out why it is even included...can't use it!!!?? The one major issue I have with this is that when you watch a DVD and want to stop and go back to TV (Satalite), you must go back to "input"...
