Toshiba SD-H400 (80-hour TiVo)

Review: Toshiba's SD-H400 combines an 80GB TiVo digital video recorder and a standard DVD player in one space-saving box. It can save up to 80 hours of TV programming on its internal hard disk, as well as play--but not record--DVDs. The device is...

Had for one year. Never had problem. Would recommend

I strongly recommend this unit as it has worked for me. Of course, I bought this a year ago and I'm sure there are newer and better models out there. I just appreciate how this has been very dependable and didn't give me a hard time. Now that ......

Functionality and ease of use. Dependable. Nice remote. Works well with Cable

Not recommended for Hi Def TV. Doesn't have the inputs

Not good at all

Because it is preloaded with the tivo firmware... you need to use tivo, I tried to plug in my telephone cord and it doesn't work... there are so many cons so I'm not even going to list them... DON'T BUY THIS PRODUCT!

It has an okay dvd player and an optical out

It is Tivo... this is my first box with tivo and it is HORRIBLE... last time I am buying any thing to do with Tivo

Great unit that breaks fast

This unit has a wonderful ease of use. The Tivo works great and is better than an old vcr. The remote is fine for me although some do not like it. The picture is good as is the dvd player

Had the unit only two months and it fried. I have been in talks with Toshiba that told me I need to make arrangements to have it sent to them. I asked them if I could take it to a local Toshiba repair shop and was told NO CHANCE! Only they can work on

Best Thing Since My First VCR

This was my first TIVO unit and I'm loving it. I've had my unit for about 2 months now and have had no problems. DVD picture quality is superb. I too bought my unit at BB on sale for $200...best thing is this unit was eligible for the $100 rebate from TIV

Almost none...the remote is not very responsive

Product Specifications

The Toshiba SD-H400 combines two great products in one box. The high performance of a progressive scan DVD-Video player and TiVo functionality gives you an all-in-one Digital Media Server. It will change the way you experience home entertainment. Super ColorStream Pro Component Video Outputs allow the highest quality video signal to be sent from the DVD player to a component video equipped progressive scan TV. When this connection is utilized with today's HD-compatible sets, typical NTSC artifacts - like video noise, dot crawl, and flicker - are virtually eliminated, resulting in a low-noise, highly detailed picture with unequaled color purity. A special digital filter enables four times oversampling of the Y, Pr, and Pb signals while the 54mHz video clock speed processes the entire video signal, extending the resolution to 540 lines. Digital Cinema Progressive (3:2 Pulldown) delivers the smoothest, most film-like images to any progressive scan television, such as an HD-compatible one, and ensures maximum resolution. Grayscale in video is measured and tracked on a scale of 0 (black) to 100 (white) IRE units. The EXPANDED mode in the "Video Black Level Setting" menu enables Toshiba DVD players to output a 0 IRE signal for richer, deeper black tones in every image. (E.A.M.) Enhanced Audio Mode feature includes three modes: NORMAL (off mode), 3-D (virtual surround sound enhancement from multichannel content), and DIALOGUE Expander (which enhances center channel (dialogue) frequencies during playback of multichannel content). DIALOGUE mode is great for "late night" listening when volume levels are low but dialogue intelligibility is of concern. 181-Channel NTSC Tuner facilitates off-air recording and Auto Channel setup. Power Picture Zoom allows you to select an area of the picture you want to zoom in on and magnify it. Enhanced digital processing during moving video or freeze-frame playback produces superior color fidelity and resolution, even when you're zoomed in. Also can be used to expand letterbox-only films to increase the viewable area on-screen.
