Contra 4 (DS)

You might wear skinny ties. You may rock feathered hair. Hell, perhaps you still sport a makeup job that'd make Boy George pause and cringe. But until you play Contra 4, an all-new chapter in the mega-popular, finger-cramping sci-fi run-'n'-gun series...

Contra 4

In fact…

Fret not, though. Contra 4 is the best game in the series, period. WayForward has done the impossible and returned the series to its former self. Booting up the main adventure, the first level is laden with nostalgia; from the main Contra theme, to the...

Contra 4 Review

The Contra series makes a wonderful comeback on the DS

Contra 4 has become my cartridge of choice for my DS. The game is a lot of fun, even if the challenge level is out of this world. If you've been around for all 20 years of Contra, this is a must purchase. Even if you're new to the series, it's time for...

Contra 4 - DS review at Thunderbolt Games

Aliens have invaded Earth and only four manly men with their big, sexy guns stand a chance in hell against them. Forget about an original plot-line; Contra 4 is all about shooting anything and everything. You wanna kick ass? Hah! If anything, your ass...

Contra 4

Konami's classic series has turned 20. Celebrate by experiencing a new game that plays like an old one.

Perfectly recaptures that old-school Contra vibe; two NES classics can be unlocked; extreme difficulty will turn little boys into men

Screen gaps can lead to deaths; no multiplayer in the classic games; extreme difficulty may cause weaklings and cowards to cry

Contra 4 Nintendo DS Review

Great unlockables; fantastic graphics and music; fun (if slightly frustrating) gameplay

Incredibly difficult; there's no two-player option for the classic NES games; nada Game Sharing

OK, it's time to put the kids to bed and get yourself a real man game. I mean, a game so tough as nails that it'll test your very grit as a gamer, one that'll put you to the point that you may lob the Nintendo DS across the room. (So, be advised, you...

Contra 4

Konami has decided to celebrate Contra's twentieth anniversary by making the best Contra yet.

Stays true to Contra's roots ; Soft difficulty curve works the player up to the really hard stuff ; Excellent art and music ; Challenge mode ; Lots of bonus content

A lot of the game's content is exceptionally difficult ; Unable to reassign buttons ; Can't shoot while using the grappling hook ; Certain special techniques might have benefited from in-game explanations in easy mode

You'll just have to review all the easy ones.

Contra 4 Review

Contra is still tough as nails and fun as hell.

In the end, however, Contra 4 happily sidesteps the mistakes that plagued other failed entries in the series. The nostalgic goodies and difficulty settings add to its richness. Unless you're a wimp, rush out and buy a copy.

E3 '07: Contra 4 hands-on

Cool. Post a Comment

The game stays true to the Contra franchise, and is a nice bounce back from the last outing. According to Konami, the idea of the game on the DS came from seeing how successful New Super Mario Bros. was in keeping a franchise traditional, but adding...
