Dragon Quest IX - Sentinels of the Starry Skies Review

What could be considered the most popular console RPG series in the world, Dragon Quest IX doesn't show up on the console, but this time around, it's on the DS

Dragon Quest IX - Sentinels of the Starry Skies is the kind of game that is technically sound, but does little to stand out from the pack. I understand its fans like it this way, but the series’ lack of interesting differences from most RPG’s isn’t...

The series continues running strong. Dragon Quest is one of the most well known Japanese RPG's in gaming. It has been around for a very long time, and every iteration...

Intriguing story ; Battle system is addicting ; Multiplayer is very well done ; Hour and hours of gameplay

Not enough personality ; Can be a difficult game when played alone

Benevolent adventuring at its finest

Accessible but not simplistic, cheery tone, colorful palette and creature design, satisfying and prolific adventuring

Changing vocations can be confusing, multiplayer is local wireless only

Dragon Quest IX has kept its fans waiting for quite some time. After the success of Dragon Quest VIII on the PlayStation 2, fans eagerly awaited news of the series' next instalment for years. Square Enix had released a bombshell and shocked many...

Dragon Quest IX is a game that exceeded my expectations. Being a huge fan of Dragon Quest VIII, I had doubts whether or not Square Enix could deliver an epic experience for their next Dragon Quest game on the DS. Those fears were put to rest as I found...

Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies Review

The ninth iteration of the premiere Japanese RPG Dragon Quest has finally made its way to European shores, however unlike past titles in the franchise Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies is doing some things differently

Dragon Quest IX is a fantastic traditional JRPG that bucks the trend of over bearing cut scenes and instead offers a charming experience that is both extremely enjoyable both in single player and multiplayer. The world of Dragon Quest IX is both...

Dragon Quest IX

Dragon Quest IX stays true to the standard Dragon Quest formula with a few new additions, multiplayer and wireless downloading of dungeons, which can greatly improve your enjoyment.

nbsp;Long, enjoyable story; customization lends a personal aspect to your party

Inventory system is clunky and outdated

The latest entry in a big-in-Japan series reaches America.

More than anything, the portable handheld format and open-ended structure ultimately encourages you to do whatever you see fit, whenever, which is infinitely more rewarding than the aforementioned, well-trod routine. Nothing here is filler, though:...

Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies

When I first heard that the newest entry in the Dragon Quest series was set to have "Sentinels of the Starry Skies" as its accompanying subtitle, the English major in me was pleased while my less poetic side was left feeling as though he was looking at...

It's certainly not my place to say that Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies is a word-for-word successor to what we already saw five years ago on the PS2, but in many ways, that's essentially what we got. If this review comes off as sparse...

The Better Angels of Our Nature.

A major-league fantasy RPG in your pocket; Extensive, meaningful customization; Burly item-creation scheme; Tons of replay value/post-'completion' content; Designed primarily for (local) multiplayer

which actually impact the solo play.; Solo-game teammates lack personality; 'Traditional'/familiar almost to a fault; Only one save slot

Come with me and we'll kill this Cruelcumber together.

Refined yet classic RPG gameplay ; Tons of extras and unlockables ; More than 100 hours of content ; Cool multiplayer offerings

Local-only multiplayer ; Tag mode might not be useful for all players

If I play this game and really like it, I'll definitely tell everyone it was because of Neal. Likewise if I can't stand it. ;)
