New Super Mario Bros. Review

The first 2D Mario game in over 10 years. Is it still the king of platformers?

As many Internet reviewers have commented, the necessity of number scoring is understandable but troubling at times. You might think that due to all of my complaints about this game and comparisons to past Mario greats, I am compelled to perhaps give...

Shiny But More of the Same

Pro Tip for Nintendo - add online functionality to your games! That would be considered a NEW addition for a Nintendo game.

Mario and Luigi are back in their first all new traditional platformer in nearly 15 years! Has it been worth the wait, or has time left this genre behind?

Overall, New Super Mario Brothers almost makes the cost of the DS Lite totally worthwhile only if you played this game alone - it's that good.  This game is highly recommended to all gamers.

New Super Mario Bros. Review

The "new" Super Mario game may borrow a lot of elements from the classic games in the series but proves to be a whole lot of fun just the same.

With summer here there is going to be more gaming on the go as handhelds get taken on road trips. And just in time, Nintendo has given us a blast from the past to take along and relive the fun of our wasted youths. The game mechanics show a bit of...

New Super Mario Bros.

Earlier this year, I reviewed Super Princess Peach for the Nintendo DS. At the time, I called it “a light appetizer compared to the hearty feast New Super Mario Bros. is shaping up to be”, but it seems that's not really what happened. To be sure, SPP...

Solid game design, good level design, and overall very fun to play ; Mario Vs. Luigi mode is extremely fun

A huge lack of originality ; Crappy power-ups ; No flying ; Lacking the "wow" moments that really make the Mario series shine

New Super Mario Bros. is a solid platformer and a nice homage to the Mario series, but it's not Mario's big return to 2D gameplay like everyone thought it would be.

It's new. It's Super Mario Bros. Need we go on?

Product Specifications

It's been more than 20 years since Super Mario Bros. first arrived, and now Mario and Luigi are back in an all-new platformer for Nintendo DS. Boasting incredible 3D graphics to accompany classic 2D gameplay, this fast-paced adventure will have Mario fans cheering as they make their way over fields, under water, through castles and into the air. New Super Mario Bros. is loaded with features and characters that could only exist in the Mushroom Kingdom, including all-new power-ups like the Blue Shell, in which Mario can ride, and a massive Mushroom that makes him ultra-huge. Not only that, but players can link wirelessly with a friend to play as both Mario and Luigi in multiplayer mode. Jump, bounce and power-up through visually stunning side-scrolling worlds filled with mushroom kingdom madness. The worlds are swarming with classic enemies like Goombas and Koopas, but watch out for new foes, big bosses and unbelievable challenges made possible by the dual screens of the Nintendo DS.
