Professor Layton and the Unwound Future (DS)

The Professor Layton games occupy a brilliant little niche in the puzzle game genre, delivering mind-churning challenge with whimsy, humor, and heart. The titular gentleman and his eager apprentice have returned once more to answer a call for...

Excellently designed puzzles, entertaining story, distinct anime style

Repetitive music, really boils down to more of the same, my brain hurts

Hint coins are still scattered around each area, which allow you to unlock hints ranging from the blatantly obvious to near-enough giving the whole puzzle away. Now however if that third hint doesn’t make your brain click there’s now a fourth “Super...

Professor Layton and the Unwound Future

With Professor Layton and the Unwound Future (or Lost Future in Europe) being the third in a series of so-far really, really good Nintendo DS puzzle-adventures, I was strongly hoping for further greatness as Level-5 continues to refine its winning...

Same charming aesthetic as always; updated hint and memo features; fun unlockable minigames; satisfying ending

Puzzles are sorely lacking variety, are rarely well integrated, and many are far too easy; story is too over-the-top to create any attachment

The Unwound/Lost Future is another polished Layton adventure for puzzle lovers, although both the challenges and storyline are slightly lackluster this time around.

Let me get this out of the way right now: fans of Professor Layton need not read any further (please do!) -- no matter what I say, this is a purchase for you. On the other hand, those of you that have always been on the fence may very well find this to...

Level 5 concludes the first trilogy with a bang. Really. This is a must own for puzzle fans everywhere. It's also a great chance for newcomers to get into the series.

Sequels are ubiquitous. As soon as developers discover a selling formula they spend every effort (and I use the word lightly) and moment (usually too few of these) replicating that formula in sequel upon sequel upon sequel. They stick gamers with...

Professor Layton's impeccable intuition must be catching because I have an exciting hunch that Unwound Future isn't the last we'll see of the puzzle-solving master and apprentice. And some truly ghastly puzzles involving balls and blocks and sliding...

The only reason not to play this is if you despise puzzles more than anything else. It has the story, characters, music, and more to keep any gamer satiated. The Professor delivers.

Professor Layton and the Unwound Future is the third installment in the innovative puzzle series developed by Level-5. Not surprisingly, it features puzzle solving action by the intellectual Professor Layton and his student Luke Triton. This new...

It isn't often that danger, logic and impeccable breeding find a reason to come together. That's really too bad, considering some of our coolest heroes (say, James Bond and Sherlock Holmes) are also our most distinguished gentlemen. In 2008, Professor...

Professor Layton and the Unwound Future is far and away the best of this one-of-a-kind series. While maintaining the series' standard of puzzle game excellence, it expands to become one of the most compelling adventures you've ever played. With great...

The story isn't quite as good, but Layton's riddles still provide an irresistible draw in his third adventure.

Professor Layton And The Unwound Future

The latest in a puzzle-solving series rewards those who think outside the lines.

Puzzles remain the source of the game’s core appeal, and the designers at Level 5 have come up with more than 150 that fit well within the world and don’t fall into repetitive ruts that too closely echo past chapters. The tasks are based in light math,...
