Retro Game Challenge (DS)

Video game nostalgia has been packaged and sold in a myriad of forms, but you've never played a throwback to the 8-bit era quite like Retro Game Challenge. It's an unusual concept that succeeds at feeling fresh and delightfully dated at the same time,...

Relive the good, the bad, and the downright awful with this nostalgic collection.

Each game feels genuine ; In-game magazines are fun to read and offer tips 'n' tricks for each game ; Star Prince, Guadia Quest, and RNHM3 are the best

Young Arino is the bane of my existence ; Challenges are doled out poorly ; Rally King SP and, to a lesser extent, RNHM2 are the worst

I didn't mind playing Rally King. I actually enjoyed it for the most part. Getting booted out of games was frustrating at times but usually that was most irritating when you were already close to fulfilling the second requirement through actually...

Lovingly recreated gameplay combines with a playful presentation to make Retro Game Challenge a unique simulation of the adolescence of video games that's easy to enjoy no matter which decade you were born in.

Unique concept and presentation; most games are genuinely fun; later games are fairly deep; in-game magazines are funny and informative; great sense of humor overall

Some challenges are too simple; two of the games are basically the same; Arino's commentary can get annoying at times; some of the dialogue repeats too often

Retro Game Challenge - DS review at Thunderbolt Games

Nostalgia is a powerful thing. It strikes when you least suspect it, in that one, awe-inspiring moment in which you realize what you've forgotten. What you've left behind. Sure, you might be immersed in some hundred-hour RPG, or slaughtering random...

Retro Game Challenge review for the DS

Push To Start.

Solid retro-styled games; Smorgasbord of 1980s genres; Gets you to reminisce; Appropriate 8-bit graphics and sound

Lasts about a night or two; Challenges are not very challenging; Some localization issues; Kid Amino needs to learn to shut it
