Sonic's first foray into the role-playing realm is a laudable effort, but it ultimately falls short of its potential.

Glory Days 2 (DS)

Glory Days 2, the sequel to a Game Boy Advance game that was released here in the US as Super Army War, whips together a light blend of 2D side-scrolling shooter action, tactical combat, and modern real-time strategy convention into something that...

Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood

It's like the Sonic version of Justice League!

Storyline incorporates tons of old and new characters ; Graphics and musical score are wonderful ; Platforming and world exploration are fun

Combat feels different, but in a disappointing, forced way ; Battles go on for too long and level grinding is discouraged ; Most characters feel like dead weight

So, having finally played most of it, I can safely answer your question. I didn't think too much of it. I agree with most points of the review, except I didn't like the platforming as much. Brief Re-review: To do a special move you basically have...

Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood

I really feel for Sonic fans. With every new generation of consoles, there is yet another game that promises to be the savior of the series. It's golden age ended even before Sega stopped minting consoles, and I seriously doubt it can ever fully...

Decent RPG mechanics ; Novel use of touch screen

Derivative story ; Far too many characters ; Abysmal item management

Not even Bioware can save Sonic with an RPG. This is a nice novelty, but this borrows to heavily to be anything more.

Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood Review

How can such a speedy guy be in such a slow game?

Lots and lots of Sonic characters, pretty visuals, interesting battle mechanics

Too many boring quests, battles are way too long, pointless dialog choices

Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood isn't a bad game, it's just a disappointing one. If you're a diehard Sonic fan, it's probably the best outing containing your favorite blue hedgehog in years, regardless of how low a benchmark that may be. Younger...

Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood

What could be stranger than a Sonic RPG? A Sonic RPG developed by Bioware, a Western company. Nevertheless, it's here, and if the majority of the public can be believed, it's Sonic's last chance to show promise before he ends up in the dumpster. But in...

An odd and unique fusion of Eastern and Western RPG conventions, Sonic Chronicles is a difficult game to qualify. On one hand, it's weak when compared to other Bioware titles, and even some other RPGS, such as the easily comparable Mario RPG. On the...

Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood (DS)

BioWare has clearly done its homework in the creation of Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood. The game stars the best of Sonic's extended roster of friends and the straightforward tale revolves around places and events from past Sonic games. Strong...

Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood Review

Sonic almost catches his stride in this DS role-playing game, but stumbles too often to rejuvenate the series.

None of this is to imply that Sonic Chronicles is a terrible game. It's a mediocre RPG that is wrapped in a delightful exterior intended to warm our hearts with nostalgia, and it succeeds in doing that. It's a lengthy quest for a portable RPG, although...

Will BioWare's RPG expertise successfully translate to the DS?

Impressive visuals; surprisingly engaging storyline; entertaining dialogue; tons of fan service

Lots of backtracking for fetch quests; combat is a bit too simplistic; POW attacks get repetitive

Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood Review

SEGA and Bioware team up for the first Sonic RPG title...

With easy RPG dynamics, Sonic Chronicles is a title that will only really appeal to fans of the fastest hedgehog in the known universe or younger DS gamers. It may not quite be the dream ticket that the partnership originally promised, but there's...
