Tecmo Bowl: Kickoff (DS)

Nostalgia can only take you so far. Such is the case with Tecmo Bowl Kickoff, an attempt to remake the superlative Tecmo Super Bowl on the Nintendo DS. Developer Polygon Magic should be given credit for successfully translating Tecmo Bowl's singular...

Tecmo Bowl: Kickoff

Tecmo Bowl finally returns and it feels almost like it never left. For anyone who has never played the series Tecmo Bowl is a much different beast than EA's juggernaut...

Simple arcade gameplay ; Team editor is robust ; Great nostalgia factor

Naughty filter ; Doesn’t do anything too new

Tecmo Bowl: Kickoff

Tecmo Super Bowl for the NES is easily one of the most-beloved, and important, sports titles in history. Not only did it feature the real NFL teams at the time (all 28 of them), but it also had the real NFL players as well thanks to a license from the...

Captures the spirit of the original game, with lots of cutscenes and arcade-style play ; Including online play is nice

I found a lot of bugs in this game, some of which really hurt the CPU (as if I needed help) ; Everything moves slooooowly for an arcade sports game

Despite the negativity in this review, Tecmo Bowl: Kickoff is not a bad game of football overall. Younger gamers and fans of the original will no doubt get plenty of enjoyment from it, but I personally expected more from the revival of one of my...

Tecmo Bowl: Kickoff Nintendo DS Review

Like the original game, you start out by choosing from a plethora of fictional teams. You won't find the likes of the Denver Broncos or the Indianapolis Colts, as the game lacks an NFL license. However, you will find...the Supercocks? Seriously, it's...

Most of the classic gameplay is intact, along with touch-screen features, graphics and audio that resembles old-school Tecmo Bowl. Multiplayer matches can be fun, and we dig the team customization

Menu system is a complete mess, Season Mode lacks features, no NFL teams or licenses, default teams have the worst names

Tecmo created its classic football game, Tecmo Bowl, for the NES before shifting the series to the Sega Genesis and SNES. It's a simple yet fun football series, and the company restored it to its former glory for the Nintendo DS with the recently...

Tecmo Bowl: Kickoff

This time you don't have to put up with Jim Kelly being QB BILLS.

Online mode ; Ability to edit all teams and players ; Stylus control works very well ; Doesn't mess with the classic Tecmo Bowl gameplay formula

D-Pad control is clunky and unresponsive ; Graphics are very vanilla ; Placement of the ball is not listed on the scoreboard ; Can’t edit your team's logo

These two statements conflict. Did you mean you can assign any team a premade logos but can't create your own?

Tecmo Bowl: Kickoff

Old meets new in the Nintendo DS version of a football classic.

Just like the classic football sim; simple controls and playbooks; plenty of team-customization features

Too many cut-scenes that interrupt the action; gameplay is slow and antiquated; stylus just gets in the way

Or, if you're feeling really nostalgic, you could name Kansas City's running back Christian (The Nigerian Nightmare) Okoye, the undoubted MVP of Tecmo Super Bowl due to his freakish ability to break tackles. One amusing element of the customization...

Tecmo Bowl: Kickoff

Madden owns the rights to the NFL, literally. Instead of waiting it out, hoping the Nation Football League comes to their senses; Tecmo went ahead and did there own thing. Tecmo dug deep and pulled out a classic. Kickoff looks and sounds great but it...

Tecmo Bowl: Kickoff is a blast from the past. The experience I had with this game was great. I felt like I was playing the original game. Madden might be the king football but Kickoff is the game fans will play for years. Pick this one up, even if you...
