For those looking for a multi-purpose player, AIWA offers the new XD-DV170, a small, lightweight player that offers AC/DC operation. The unit is ideal for consumers who might want a player that's easily moved from one TV to another, or from one house to another - a vacation home, for example. What's more, the DC power option allows the unit to be used in a vehicle using an external monitor. Available as an option is an adapter to power the unit thorough a car's accessory power outlet.The XD-DV170 plays DVDs, CDs, CD-R/RWs and VCDs. It includes a 96kHz/24-bit audio D/A converter and a 10-bit video D/A converter. There's an optical digital output (Dolby Digital/DTS), one set of analog RCA outputs, plus one S-Video and one composite video output. The player provides forward and reverse search at X2, X8 and X32 speeds, forward slow play at 1/2, 1/5 and 1/30 normal speed and reverse slow play at 1/2 and 1/15 normal speed. Other features include Q Surround for creating surround sound effects from two audio channels, multi-language on-screen display and a remote control.
