Buyers Beware - ditto

It is sad when the main (DVD player) portion of the device is the least reliable... My first negative experience with COBY though (had a few of them before).

Fancy features

DVD feature is pretty short lived: bought in June, died in December

Buyer Beware

Just don't do it!

Nothing

This is the second one we ordered and it broke in the same manner as the other. It will hang on the load window and not load the DVD. Horrible product and there is some button on the remote that when you push it it skews the picture and sound. Took us...

junk

I would send it back but since it took over a week for UPS to get it in the right city and I ended up having to wait 3 days in a row to watch the truck drive passed my building and be told I wasnt here to accept it, and finally ended up having to drive...

The batteries for the remote worked

almost nothing else does. usb does not work with any of my flash drives or WD external. regular dvds wont play, burnt ones play but look grainy and are out of sync and randomly locks up, only way to get it unstuck is to unplug it

DVD Lens is iffy

I didn't buy the unit from Newegg and the product's warranty would leave you paying double for the whole shebang since you are expected to pay for shipping it in yourself and include a money order for $14 so they can return it to you - that is assuming...

The HDMI upconverter and ability to play from a Card or USB is really pretty useful - especially when the actual DVD lens reader goes out on you.

After a month of use it literally stopped mid-play from a DVD and decided to no longer read any Discs - not even the lens cleaning disc with tiny brushes. everything else works beautifully, and i've now put to use both the USB and the Card slots, which...

Next step in players

This is the direction it is going - no more burning DVD's.

DVD plays AVI's perfectly even at high compression, same goes for USB, from Torrent to USB to TV awesome

Depending on compression and bit rate some AVI files will get lost when you try and skip fwd also the audio can get out of sync with video. wish they did more formats like mp4

LOVE IT!

Buying another right now ...

Plays DVD-R and DVD+R - plays media from USB thumbdrives and SD cards - I love it!

No con ... would be cool if it played other memory card formats ... but this is a GREAT product for this price.

Good but a little scary.

This is definately worth the money if you download tv shows/sporting events rather than watch them "live" on tv. I don't have an HDTV yet so i cant comment on upconversion quality.

It does what it claims. It plays many of my old avi files off of CDs I burned years ago. I'm pretty sure they are not all in the same format though (Divx Xvid... etc). The quality of the files are great, just as good as watching on a monitor IMO.

Reading a file from a USB drive takes some time to get it started. I have had a few avi files that wont play but i cant say for sure that it was the players fault, Could've been a bad torrent.

Stay away from the product

The quality of this device is very, very poor. Like other said there is a strong field around the front port where you plug in SD card and USB.

Cheap

Cheap, I was unable to get any of my Ext. Usb drives to work on this device. I tired wiping out the hard drives and still nothing... I finally got it to read a USB thumb drive but the Divx player was very poor and audio was out of sync within a couple...

Magnet?

50$ bucks how can I really complain.

50 bucks and plays movies thru the USB!

Why would you make a DVD player with a strong magnetic charge on the front?? I'm afraid to plug a flash drive in there or have my DVDs lying on the player. The DVD tray is pretty flimsy.

Very Pleased

Has been performing better than my two philips models. I am using the Coby in place of a DVP5982 as the Coby works better with my hard drive and certain AVI files. Not quite a 5-star... better than a 4-star... call it 4½-Stars!

USB to my external hard drive actually works! Files show the full name not the munged 8.3 name. Able to play files that my philips could not... no more "video gmc not supported" errors. Nice remote with good on-screen functions and information. Very...

USB often required replugging when unit is powered off and on... does not always identify the USB connected hard drive. Replugging the USB connector fixes the issue. Strong magnetic charge near the USB port. Video mode switching could be better.
