By Matthew Moskovciak (cnet.com)

Excellent image quality on Blu-ray Discs ; Profile 2.0 compliant ; onboard decoding for all high-resolution soundtrack formats, plus bit stream output ; 7.1 analog-audio outputs

PlayStation 3 offers much more functionality and faster navigation for the same price

The Panasonic DMP-BD55 is the best standalone Blu-ray we've tested and it's a good choice for those with older receivers, but most people will get the same performance out of the cheaper DMP-BD35.

The Panasonic DMP-BD55 is a perfect example, hitting almost all the essential...

TESTED: Panasonic DMP-BD55 Blu-ray player

By Chris Martens (avguide.com)

Once Blu-ray triumphed in the late, great HD format war, movie lovers were set free to take the Blu-ray plunge with confidence, and for all the right reasons. Blu-ray, after all, provides gorgeous 1080p HD images and high-resolution Dolby TrueHD or ...

Despite a user interface and setup menus that are trickier to use than they should be, Panasonic's DMP-BD55 offers strong video performance and unexpectedly refined analog audio performance. This little player may look modest, but it offers tons of ...

By ELECTRICLUV (cnet.com)

The picture quality with my Sony KDL-52W4100 is simply ridiculous. The clarity when watching the IMAX scenes in The Dark Knight is especially astounding ; although all blu-rays are phenomenal. The 1080P upconversion breaths new life into my DVD's

"What To Buy Now?"

By 2PACOLYPSE NOW (cnet.com)

Crutchfield informed me that the DMP-55K is b...

A model finally arrived that had me ready to dip into my savings and buy this week. The one star is basically for Panasonic discontinuing it so suddenly without warning and right after being named best player at 2009 CES. That's really peculiar.

The player (DMP-55K) as I have been told by Crutchfield and Panasonic themselves is no longer being sold anywhere in my area has been discontinued. Great, I'm ready to finally buy a standalone blu ray player and the model is discontinued.
