Panasonic DMR-BWT700

Panasonic's Freeview HD-equipped Blu-ray/HDD recorder can't quite recreate the magic of its bigger brothers but still proves its worth as a top-drawer entertainment hub.

Lots of features, Superb picture quality from all sources, Extensive recording and editing functionality

Cluttered EPG, Disjointed menus, Viera Cast content

Panasonic DMR-BWT700 review

The Panasonic DMR-BWT700 Blu-ray recorder may be complicated but it's worth sticking with

A stack of functionality ; good picture quality from all sources (including recordings)

Thinks long and hard before doing anything ; not even remotely intuitive to use

For the patient and methodical, this is a brilliantly useful machine

Panasonic DMR-BWT700 review

Panasonic's hard disk/Blu-ray recorders hark back to the day when video recording meant people could lend VHS tapes to friends and family, who'd missed an episode of Twin Peaks or the Christmas day broadcast of Back To The Future on BBC1.

Versatile Freeview PVR; 3D BD playback

Unimpressive with multimedia; dated-looking menus; complex operating system

Panasonic DMR-BWT700

Panasonic's latest brainy box has so many functions we're not quite sure what to call it. Back in the 1980s my Dad refused to buy a new TV, a VHS recorder, computer or any games systems, believing that there would soon be one device for the lounge that...

HD pics, archiving functions, 3D Blu-ray

No Wi-Fi, complicated, lacks BBC iPlayer, small HDD

Adept with all dimensions of Blu-ray and Freeview HD, and exceptionally kind to DVD, the BWT700 is a superb chunk of home cinema heaven, but its occasionally clumsy and complex user interface mars its extensive archiving and storage skills.

Panasonic DMR-BWT700

Panasonic is the only company with Blu-ray recorders on the market, making it the go-to brand for people who want to record HD TV content onto high-capacity Blu-ray platters. But, does the DMR-BWT700's 3D recording capability make it a good investment...

Panasonic DMR-BWT700 HDD and Blu-ray recorder combo

Review Panasonic has a reputation for building digital TV recorders that have impressive features, but are about as user friendly as an angry dominatrix. Maintaining at least one tradition here, the DMR-BWT700 certainly doesn't skimp on the feature...

Indeed, it’s a shame Panasonic hasn’t made made any significant changes to the user experience, including those godforsaken EPG ads. Given what you get on the company's tellies the internet services and digital media streaming support should be better...

Excellent picture and sound quality.

Loading a disc. You have to press the open and close control on the machine. There is no way to open and close the loading tray using the remote control.

Panasonic DMR-BWT700EB

Excellent picture quality.

May be ok as blu ray player recorder but does not do basic job as a pvr. Rewind live TV function doesn't work properly, miss out end of program you are watching before timer recording starts. My previous cheap PVR would use the buffer to record...
