Panasonic DMR-ES25S

Have had the recorder since Jan. 2007. Love the quality of LP (4 hour) recording, BUT it renders about one in fifteen discs unplayble (usually ones that I have already recorded something on, and am recording a second or third or more segment on). I get...

Good quality LP mode; ease of use

Renders about 1 in 15 discs unplayable

I'm very pleased with this dvd recorder's featurs. The only problem is if you are recording from mini DV camcorder to dvd using this recorder, it records in 4:3 aspect ratio, not 16:9.

Panasonic DMR-ES25S

Bought the product online from Beach Audio at end of Feb. Multiple input/outputs provided a lot of flexibility and picture quality was top notch. But, not even 3 months later, I had to bring it in for servicing. The machine was unable to read any DVDs....

Good as a dvd recorder/player. Loved the multiple input/outputs

It seems the RAM is glitchy

Having previously been very pleased with the Panasonic ES10, I had no question about choosing the ES25 especially after Consumer Reports rating. I made a big mistake thinking the ES25 would be an improvement on the ES10. The controls are more...

None stand out

Locks up constantly during time slipping

PANASONIC AT ITS BEST

Overall, this is an A-/B+ player and recorder. First and foremost, it will play some burned dvds that my Sony players can't. And where there are glitches (freeze-ups) when watching some burned dvds on my Sony dvd players, there are none when played...

poor man's DVR: chasing playback is cool

poor man's DVR: chasing playback is cool

I call this DVD recorder a poor man's DVR (Digital Video Recorder) because of its cool "chasing playback" which allows you to record and play simultaneously. You can play the same or a different video while it is recording. This DVD recorder has enough...

Product Specifications

Incredibly versatile and format friendly, this DVD recorder can record to and play back just about any DVD you can throw at it. Specifically, it can record to and play back DVD-R/-RW/-RAM/+R/+RW discs. It can also play back many more disc formats, including: DVD-Video, DVD-Audio, DVD-R(dual layer), DVD+R(dual layer), CD, CD-DA, and CD-R/RW(including MP3 and JPEG files). With a Panasonic DVD recorder, never think twice about what disc you need. This DVD recorder can record an amazing 500 lines of horizontal resolution in LP Mode, which is twice the 250 lines of resolution offered by conventional LP Mode recording. What does this mean? It means that you can now record longer (4 hours on a single-sided DVD-R or -RAM disc as opposed to 2 hours) and still enjoy the crisp, vibrant images with exceptional detail that 500 lines of horizontal resolution deliver. When connected to an HDMI-compatible TV via an HDMI cable, this DVD recorder can up-convert the DVD content that you? re watching to 720p or 1080i resolution (depending on your TV? s display capability) so you can enjoy beautiful, high-quality imagery in high definition. You sit down to watch this week's episode of your favorite show and realize that you never got around to watching your recording of last week's episode. Not a problem with Time Slip, featuring simultaneous record and play. Select this week's episode in the program guide, start recording, and as it records you can watch your recording of last week's episode. What if you set up your DVD recorder to record a movie from 8: 00 to 10: 00 while you're out, but dinner was faster than you expected and you get home early? With Chasing Playback feature, you don't have to wait for the program to finish recording in order to watch it. You can begin watching the portion of the program that has already been saved while the DVD recorder continues recording the remainder of the program. If you own a VCR, it's almost certain that at some point someone has accidentally recorded over a movie or show that you wanted to keep. One-Touch Record will save your favorite programs from the same fate by automatically scanning the disc for blank space before starting the recording process. No more worries that your favorite sitcom's season finale will be overwritten by a family member's Sunday fishing show. You and your family are sure to enjoy the convenience of your DVD recorder so much that you'll have a large library of recordings in no time. Keeping track of all those programs would be difficult if it weren't for enhanced Direct Navigator, which displays thumbnails of every program on the disc as you browse, making it easy to identify the contents of each recording. It can be heartbreaking when you play an old VHS home video and find that years of playback have degraded the image and sound quality. Preserve your precious VHS tapes by transferring them to DVD, which will provide durability and many years of enjoyment. With One-Touch 2-Way Transfer, you can dub a VHS tape to DVD by pushing a single button.
