A great addition to my home stereo.

A great addition to my home stereo.

The Panasonic S52 is great for at home stereo/television use because it is light, convenient and portable enough to fit in a suitcase between trips. The picture quality is excellent and it delivers deep bass and clear treble which means it's ideal as a...

Best buy so far ...

HDMI, coax and optical audio, Price, fast loading, multi-format playback, lightweight, easy to use.

No screen saver that I've found, but with LCD it doesn't matter.

It's decent, but nothing special

It's decent, but nothing special

I recently moved up at an HDTV, and didn't want to commit to the high-def DVD war. I honestly don't see any picture difference with the up converting on. It looks exactly the same. Yes, I am using the HDMI output. There are two other problems that I...

Product Specifications

If you have even a moderately complicated home theater setup, you probably have a pile of tangled cables on the floor behind it. Imagine replacing all those cables with a single cable that carries both digital video and audio at the same time. With the Panasonic DVD-S52S featuring the new HDMI standard, that's exactly what you get. HDMI carries high-quality digital video and audio over the same thin cable, allowing you to run one cable from your DVD player to an HDMI-compatible TV or home theater receiver. When connected to an HDMI-compatible TV via an HDMI cable, this DVD player can up-convert the DVD content that you're watching to 720p or 1080i resolution (depending on your TV's display capability) so you can enjoy beautiful, high-quality imagery in high definition. Incredibly versatile and format friendly, this DVD player can play back just about any DVD or CD you can throw at it. Specifically, it can play back the following disc formats: DVD-Video, DVD-Audio, DVD-R (including dual layer), DVD-RW, DVD-RAM, DVD+R (including dual layer), DVD+RW, CD, CD-DA, HDCD, and CD-R/RW (including MP3, JPEG, and WMA). The goal of any playback device should be accurate reproduction of the original content. In the case of DVDs, most of that content is film-based. Utilizing advanced progressive scan playback techniques and very accurate MPEG video decoders, this DVD player provides an image that faithfully represents the image you see at your favorite movie theater. When compressed digital audio such as MP3s and movie soundtracks is created, higher frequencies are lost due to limited frequency response. Most of these frequencies can't be heard by human ears, but their presence conveys subtle nuances. When they're missing in a digital recording, it doesn't quite sound the same as the live performance. Panasonic's multi re-master feature examines the audio signal and helps compensate for these lost frequencies, providing sound quality closer to the original performance.
