Philips DVP5960 DVD Player Review and Prices

We are hard-pressed to think of a budget DVD player that offers more for less than the Philips DVP5960. This single-disc unit is neatly designed, with a sleek finish and slender construction, standing just 1-1/2 inches high. It may not have the...

HDMI up-conversion of DVD, USB port, DivX-compatible, slim and stylish design

No DTS support, no S-video output, poorly designed remote control, buggy JPEG browser functions

Philips DVP5960

You'll find the ubiquitous socket on the back panel of this low price DVD deck from Philips, and those of you with HD Ready displays take note -the DVP5960 will up convert standard definition DVDs to 720p or 1080i to more closely match your screen

Easy installation, Lots of features

No S-video output

This DVD player delivers superb pictures without a hint of artefacting - all the better when you clock the low price

Very good value

Very inexpensive with plenty of bells and whistles given the low price point. I would recommend for someone looking for a solid DVD player at a low cost

None that I observed

Great Value

If you don't have 1080p, then this is the DVD player for you.

The upconvert to 1080i is flawless. My old DVD collection looks great on my new LCD. The USB port is a bonus

Small Remote. The menu for the USB cuts off the file names

Awesome

Great quality and performance. Easy to navigate menu

Always starts on HDMI Upgade mode. Some videos, like those burned at low bitraes, do not look very good at this resolution. Remote sucks

Great Buy!!

USB port works flawlessly. I only have 1080i so this works for my situation perfectly

1080i and not 1080p

Excelent Quality

I work at a dealership and we have 6 of these players hooked to TV's. All of these players have been running for more than a year and a half straight (as in it has been going 24x7 for 1.5 years) and we just now have to replace one. If you do the math...

Excellent build quality. USB port and Divx support has come in handy a few times as well

I really cant think of any negatives about this device. It simply works

Good DVD Player, but...

My unit was build in July 2007, has a firmware version V37.06.42.33 while Philips offers V37.06.42.29 on their website (!?). Don't make a big fuss about the usb 1.1 port. I read on some forums that this player wasn't DTS capable in the beginning. Now...

Nice sleek looking DVD player, USB 1.1, decent loading times, recognizes udf file format discs, nice image ; I bought this to replace my 3 years old Cyberhome DivX player who's IDE drive slowly stopped reading discs; also, the manufacturer went out of...

Remote is small, I dislike its shape design, has small buttons. There's no Eject command on the remote; you have to keep the "stop" button pressed(!?). I went into setup and I set sleep after 30mins, but this setting won't be saved no matter what....

Excellent Quality

I'm using this DVD player on a non-HD TV and the picture is very sharp.

Plays all supported formats without any problems. Accepts low to middle quality DVD+R & DVD-R media

The remote control may be a bit spartan but, it has all of the features absolutely needed
