A great player (great, not perfect...)

A great player (great, not perfect...)

I don't know if any DVD player that's been made really deserves 5 stars...one DVD will have a ton of features but then when you need that one feature your DVD player doesn't have, you either have to do without or buy another DVD player... My mother...

No More remotes.

Plays CD-Rs, excellent picture quality, solid looks, fast resume and startup

Remote is not illuminated, I don't like the LCD color, limited playback speeds and features

Great DVD player for an old model

Great DVD player for an old model

Althought this DVD player doesn't have the progressive scan feature, the picture looks better than one that does. When compare to a new Panasonic, the image quality of Panasonic looks artificial and "digital". The Pioneer's picture is a lot warmer and...

Piece of junk - do not buy!

This DVD player worked well for about 9 months, but then started having some very strange problems. The worst part is that the problems are inconsistent and completely unpredictable. It got to the point where we wouldn't rent a DVD because there was no...

Problems after 20 months of light use

I bought this model in December, 2000 as a family Christmas gift based on reviews I read here. We used it "lightly" - probably playing one DVD movie a week from then until last month. The machine no longer responds predictably to either the remote...

Best DVD Player for your budget!

Best DVD Player for your budget!

I received this DVD player as a gift over a year ago. It is one of the best DVD players I've seen or heard of. It plays virtually any format, VCD's and regular CD's included and its quite simple to use. It may not have as many features as some of the...

Dependable! It has never failed on us!

Dependable! It has never failed on us!

I bought this DVD player on July 16, 2000 after having an awful experience with an Emerson DVD player we impulse-bought at Wal-Mart one day. The Emerson was always freezing up and having problems. We got to the point where we almost didn't want to use...

Defective Player

I bought my first DVD player (Panasonic) several years ago and it was very finicky with certain disks (The Matrix, in particular). I would see a lot of "noise" or the player would freeze altogether. I read other people's reviews (unfortunately not the...

Product Specifications

The Pioneer DV-333 DVD player features 10-Bit 27 MHz Video D/A Conversion that provides rapid processing of the video signal with less signal loss, ensuring maximum image resolution and images free of artifacts. Video Black Level Expansion with Pluge is an essential image-enhancing feature for expanding contrast and producing the deepest blacks available in any video format. The Black cutoff level ranges from 7.5 IRE NTSC standard to 0 IRE for wider gray scale contrast, which delivers more vibrant colors. Plus, the system is capable of reproducing "Blacker than Black" Pluge signals, critical for setting proper picture brightness levels. Component Video Outputs provide the highest level of video signal transfer quality available today when connected to televisions equipped with compatible inputs. By dividing the video signal into component elements, component video outputs deliver a remarkable improvement in picture detail at maximum resolution, with unmatched color purity and edge detail. Color blooming and "hanging dots" are eliminated, as well as the other NTSC artifacts. DTS Compatibility allows this DVD player to pickup and output DTS (Digital Theater System) 5.1 channel audio signals for decoding by DTS-decoding receivers. The sound of DTS is three-dimensional with a wide dynamic range and a minimum of compression artifacts. 96 kHz/24-bit Audio D/A Converter Maximizes DVD and CD audio performance capability, providing smoother, less digitized transitions, and richer sonic texture. Coaxial Digital Audio Input is featured for connection of other digital audio sources such as MD players, for incredible sonic performance. This player is equipped Twin-Wave Laser Pickup for playing DVDs and CDs, Video CDs and CD-Rs. The player automatically detects which type of disc is loaded, and activates the appropriate diode to provide the optimal laser wavelength for playback. The pickup's twin-wave design provides the best possible performance regardless of format. Viterbi RF Decoding Process applies a sophisticated parametric statistical analysis to enhance correction of disc data errors caused by fingerprints, dust, and warping, thereby considerably reducing the error rate. More simply put, fewer errors means higher fidelity audio and video, and a more pleasant entertainment experience. Advanced Graphical User Interface simplifies control of a versatile range of operations, allowing all commands to be set up even as a disc plays. Basic mode keeps settings simple and displays function descriptions. Expert mode allows audio/video enthusiasts to select among more detailed settings. Guide Indication displays available operations and makes them easy to monitor. When connected to a receiver or amplifier with a Dolby Digital or DTS decoder through either the optical or coaxial digital outputs, you can enjoy the phenomenal experience of video through five discrete full range channels, whether for stunning sound effects or crystal clear dialogue.
