Budget DVD player for HDTVs

If you have an HDTV, but don't want to opt for a Blu-ray Disc player such as the Panasonic DMP-BD65K (*Est. $125), the Pioneer DV-420V-K deserves a good look. It can upscale DVDs all the way up to 1080p via its HDMI output, and user reviews generally...

Good picture quality, can upscale video to 1080p, can play files from or write music files to a USB device, can play discs from other parts of the world (with firmware update)

Region-free firmware update not officially supported, not much less expensive than a Blu-ray player

Don't be misled by "multiformat" in the title. It does play PAL/NTSC, but it is not "multiregion", i.e. it will only play US DVDs.

Good player overall

Takes effort to make it see USB drive and show the directory. Had to plug/unplug flash and at the same time switch USB/DVD modes

Great DVD/Divx player!

A very well built machine. 1080 Upconversion is beautiful on my 32" Sony Bravia. Plays everything. Looks nice and USB port is a plus. I will definately recommend it to friends. Great price

Pioneer DV-420V-K Multi-Format 1080p Upscaling DVD Player

All in all it is an excellent product at a reasonable price.

This DVD player does everything that it advertises. The 1080P upconversion is incredible. I have a 58" plasma and the resolution of this player is far better than I expected. Don't see any reason to go to bluray ; The player displays more info about...

The remote is a bit cheesy but, I only use it to get info about the disk

Solid product

Very happy I made this purchase.

Plays everything that I throw at it. If you plan to use USB, make sure it is formatted FAT32 - it won't play NTFS formatted drives

An update to '"Test b4 you buy!!'

Had to purchase a software converter - "WM Converter" to be exact ; converted my wmv video files to DivX and now I'm able to watch them using my 1TB external drive ; because of the extra work I give only 3 eggs., would have gotten 5 eggs if it had hit...

none other than what u can find above (if you want to view it like that)

Works good. It's a DVD player, not a lot to get excited about.

Pioneer DV-420V-K Multi-Format 1080p Upscaling DVD Player

I would have prefered it to have an optical out for surround sound, but its ok the digital feed sound great too.

This is a very well designed dvd player. I have it set to up convert to 1080p on my new LG and it looks amazing. Picture is clear and doesn't have the horizontal letter box like my old Panasonic had because of the compressed picture

None to this point
