Pioneer DVR-LX61D DVD/HDD Recorder

Could this be the best DVD recorder available? If you value features over all else, then yes.

We defy anyone to spend a couple of days in the company of the DVR-LX61D and come away unimpressed. It’s quite simply a sublime combi recorder that boasts a stupefying range of features, immaculate recording performance and bomb shelter build quality....

This promising Pioneer is let down by lacklustre video and audio performance

Stylish unit, easy to use ; doubles as musical media centre ; impressive functionality

Average TV tuner for the price ; disappointing sound quality with music ; cheaper, better recorders are available

An analogue and digital terrestrial tuner are built-in, as well as a choice of two programme guides - like the Sony - one of which adds external set-top box control and the other for Freeview+ features such as Series Recording. Pioneer (which has...

DVB tuner image quality, very low noise even using hard disk, hard disk speed, recorded video quality, connectivity to computer or USB devices (ethernet LAN, USB input), easy-to-use program guide and video recording schedule

Difficult to organize files from USB devices or other sources ("PC video"), can't copy files to a previously created folder

Pioneer DVR-LX61D

Pioneer really do make the best. It was easy to set up and works perfectly. The 250 GB hard drive will certainly take a long time to fill up. The high speed copy function (for copying from HDD to DVD) is a great improvement over my previous Liteon DVD...

The remote control is a little clunky and probably has too many buttons. It lacks the ergonomic design of Sony remotes.
