HARDWARE REVIEW: Sony BDP-SX1

In this age of tablets and video streaming is there still room for a portable Blu-ray player? Sony thinks so. Steve May takes some BDs on the road

Sony BDP-SX1 review

If you want to take your Blu-rays on the road, Sony's BDP-SX1 portable player is a reasonable, if expensive, option. Its good USB media support is a bonus, but Blu-rays don't look significantly better than DVDs on a 10-inch screen.

Screen swivels 360 degrees ; USB media playback, with broad file support ; Excellent battery life ; HDMI output

Standard-definition connection kills image quality ; No Internet TV or streaming functionality ; Noisy ; Expensive
