Sony DVP-CX870D - (DVD Players)

You'll be sorry...

I have purchased countless Sony products, but this one is a true dog. I thought that it would be great to have one changer to hold all of my DVD's (I still like the idea a lot!), but this product has some pretty serious flaws: 1) It's definitely ...

Holds 300 DVD's.

Extremely slow and cumbersome to use.

Sony Misses

I bought this unit on an impulse having had good luck with Sony products in the past. I wish I would have come to this website first. I thought it would be a great unit to get rid of the clutter of cd boxes and it holds as much as about 180 GB or so...

It flips the cd over if you put in in backwards

It won't play it anyway because it's a CD-R

Sony DVP-CX870D Multi-disc DVD Player

So far, it has not exploded (trying to look at the bright side)

Shoddy workmanship - apparently designed to break shortly after warranty expires.

You get what you pay for

I have owned one of these units for a year now and it has had one VERY MAJOR flaw LOADING. The big vertical carousel is fussy about loading discs and it will ruin your enjoyment of this piece because of that. Mine is in now for its third service...

300 disc library, dual sided play, looks, 5.1 outputs

poor manual, lousy interface, service and support, loading and cataloging

Only a year old and ready to upgrade

OK. I know most of the other reviews are from last year and the new model is out but the DVP-CX870D is still being sold.

No more VHS boxes to trip over!

EXTREMELY poor user interface. The more discs you have the harder it is to use.

Product Specifications

Sony introduces 301-disc DVD/CD changer - the DVP-CX870D, the first DVD players capable of accessing both sides of a disc and featuring advanced disc management features for those with rapidly growing CD and DVD libraries. This product allows DVD collectors and enthusiasts to easily access, manage and store all their discs with the push of a Remote Commander button. Thanks to technological advancements and design improvements, Sony's new 301-disc changer is smaller and lighter than its 200-disc predecessor. By moving the optical disc drive to the center of the player, 3 inches are removed from the overall depth, and 2 inches are removed from the height. The DVP-CX870D features the proprietary Disc Explorer Disc Management System that provides enhancements and ease of use when managing discs. Whether it's sorting, filing or categorizing, Sony's new changer provide an efficient solution. Originally introduced on Sony's critically acclaimed DVP-CX850D, the DVD format's Jacket Picture feature has become more accessible, thanks to the inclusion of the feature by many of the motion picture studios and Sony's own innovations. Jacket Picture titles include an image of their cover art embedded in the disc. These can be displayed as a series of thumbnail images for use in organizing and playing DVD collections, or they can be displayed full screen individually whenever disc playback is stopped. In addition, the Disc Explorer system allows users to easily access any disc stored either alphabetically by title or numerically by tray slot number. There's also an Edit Mode that enables users to categorize any movie or music by genre, using graphic icons. The DVP-CX870D incorporates DVD text capability, simplifying the storage and accessing of encoded discs. When inserted into a player, the encoded disc's name automatically appears on the DVD player display and TV screen. Text information - such as disc title, artist or actors, chapter/track and genre - can also be included. Users can also personalize the information by using the changers' Disc Memo feature in conjunction with an enhanced, illuminated DVD Navigator Remote or with any IBM compatible P/S2 keyboard (not supplied).
