The S7000 is a very popular model to be modded. Unfortunately, either my subsequent buyer or the previous owner B.S. me since I paid over $100 for an so called "modded" unit. The buyer told me the unit just had an additional BNC digital out jack...

Everything you've read about this player is true. Had it for 8 years now (1998-2006) and have never regretted the purchase, or desired an upgrade. This thing is a tank.

Sony DVP-S7000 DVD Players

I got this on ebay. After extensive research I have found that this unit uses the 480i. It will outperform a progressive scan in many ways. It will have a slightly softer picture than the 9000es modle but less combing, single field interpolation and up...

Product Specifications

Critics who rarely agree on anything have hailed Sony's first DVD-video player, the DVP-S7000, as the reference standard. Now Sony has redefined the standard with the DVP-S7700. A new DSP servo LSI, new 96-kHz/24-bit audio capability, new DTS digital output, and new refinements in construction and convenience make the DVP-S7700 worth checking out. DVD's digital video technology assures spectacular Video Pictures. Horizontal digital video, with MPEG-2 bit rate reduction allows to capture aresolution of over 500 lines for amazing picture detail, and better than Laserdisc. A single-side, single-layer disc can contain up to 133 minutes of video, enough to handle 97% of all movies without the interruption of flipping the disc over or changing discs. Single-side, dual-layer discs can hold up to four hours of video. Smooth Scan picture search with 32-bit RISC microprocessor provides superior scan quality in High Speed, Slow Motion and Frame-by-Frame mode in both forward and reverse. The DVP-S7700 has separate lasers optimized for CD (780 nm wavelength) and DVD (635 nm) for stable, accurate playback of both types of discs. It also eliminates lens switching, reduces laser wear and extends laser life. Digital Video Noise Reduction Control uses digital processing to reduce video noise - the tiny flecks and specks of unwanted color that can detract from your picture. Surround/Normal Switch provides full compatibility with Dolby Pro Logic and surround, as well as conventional stereo, by downmixing Dolby Digital (AC-3) soundtracks. R-Core Transformer minimizes flux leakage and hum radiation that might interfere with the audio/video performance. Dynamic Range Selection allows for adjustment of audio dynamic range or attenuation to ensure full sonic impact of sound even at lower listening levels. Twin Monaural Topography provides identical circuit paths for both audio channels ensuring that interaction with external components is kept to a minimum. The design helps to reduce inter-channel modulation and cross-talk. Advanced On-Screen Menus make operation and setup easy by providing point and click menus for: play mode, video control, custom setup, initial setup, and parental control. Multi-Angle Switch lets you choose camera angles during playback of compatible discs. S-Link Control helps you build an A/V system that thinks and operates like you do. With Auto Power and Auto Function Selection, the DVP-S7000 works with other Sony S-Link audio and video components. Bit Rate Meter lets you monitor the average video bit-rate level from scene to scene and disc to disc. Aluminum Front Panel and Anti-Resonant Top Plate help block air-borne vibration that can degrade sound quality. Advanced design provides superior anti-resonant characteristics to minimize vibrations that could effect sound and picture quality. There's even special isolation feet, to dampen airborne or mechanical vibrations. Isolated Glass Epoxy Audio Circuit Board reduces distortions caused by video signal cross-talk.
