Sony DVP-NS725P

The DVP-NS725P, available for a street price of around $130, is Sony's midrange progressive-scan DVD player. It replaces the company's NS715P and looks nearly identical to the excellent entry-level NS325 . The NS725P has the earlier models' slim,...

Superior disc compatibility; very solid anamorphic downconversion; multiple picture modes; optical and coaxial digital-audio outputs.

Substandard progressive-scan video; no photo-disc support.

Lackluster progressive-scan video hobbles this otherwise decent player.

"Typical garbage"

This is now the second Sony DVD player to die on me in the last 3 months. First one stopped being able to read dual layer discs, this one all of a sudden has no video output.

looks good, good interface

Sony DVD players have the lifespan of a fruit fly

"Not very durable"

For the brief time I had the unit it performed well and the quality was superior. It just had no longevity and didn't make it to it's first anniversary.

Multi-formats

Progressive was poor and it lasted less than one year

"Nothing but compliments on the picture"

Plays every disc I have ever tried including discs so scratched I couldn't believe it, has amazing picture quality on a 4:3 set, and has a very attractive case design.

Remote could be better.

"Progressive scan stinks!"

cheap, not bad interlaced mode, quick reading disc

just simply bad progressive mode with wavy/blurring lines around some objects in some, but not all, dvd's. my sony xbr910 shows all the dvd player's flaws.

"For the price it is the best DVD out"

I have owned 3 other DVD players of different brands and the Sony is deinitely the best of them all. Easy to use and progressive scan makes the playback quality way above average.

No zoom
