Sony LF-PK1 LocationFree Player Pak

Place-shifting TV is one of the new hot buzzwords in tech land, and Sony's LF-PK1 LocationFree Player Pak, which allows you to wirelessly stream live TV to your PC or PSP handheld game console, is Sony's answer to Sling Media's well-received Slingbox ....

Streams live TV to any PC or PSP with broadband access; built-in wireless; works with any video source, including DVRs and TiVos; relatively simple setup.

More expensive than Slingbox; monopolizes the attached device; may not have necessary IR codes to fully operate your cable box or video device.

The Sony LF-PK1 LocationFree Player Pak isn't quite on a par with the Slingbox, but it is the only device that streams video to your PSP--and it's getting better with each firmware upgrade.

"Better than most people say!"

When I read the other articles about this on C|net I hesitated a little about buying it but decided to take the risk. When I first got it I did the setup for watching NetAv at home(and it was easy) but when I went to setup NetAv on-the-go it took me a...

It has a IR blaster (a remote control like thing) and it can stream basic cable as well as digital cable and satelite.

Only 1 person can be connected to it at a time and it comes with only 1 computer registration code!

Quite a nifty product

With high-speed Verizon FIOS in the house the video on my laptop is as good as what is seen on the plasma TV in the family room. Installation was surprisingly simple. I connect from my office which has slower DSL and I have to reduce the rate which...

Problem-free once installed

Additional computers require additional SW CD which is unavailable

Works best for nerds

Contrary to what the reviewer writes, the unit will stream wirelessly through a WiFi router, but in order to make that work you need to set up a static IP address in both the unit and the router, and do some other fancy stuff. A wireless game adapter,...

For laptop users, a good way of untethering

Knowledge of router programming is not needed, but required
