Sony LF-PK1 LocationFree Player Pak

Place-shifting TV is one of the new hot buzzwords in tech land, and Sony's LF-PK1 LocationFree Player Pak, which allows you to wirelessly stream live TV to your PC or PSP handheld game console, is Sony's answer to Sling Media's well-received Slingbox ....

Streams live TV to any PC or PSP with broadband access; built-in wireless; works with any video source, including DVRs and TiVos; relatively simple setup.

More expensive than Slingbox; monopolizes the attached device; may not have necessary IR codes to fully operate your cable box or video device.

The Sony LF-PK1 LocationFree Player Pak isn't quite on a par with the Slingbox, but it is the only device that streams video to your PSP--and it's getting better with each firmware upgrade.

Sony's answer to the Slingbox works with PSPs, but lacks an internal TV tuner and is more expensive than its rival

Watching TV on your PSP gives LocationFree tech appeal but the Slingbox edges it for value

Sony LocationFree review

The LocationFree performs well and can be recommended to PSP owners who want to use their console as a second home TV, or as a client to their home TV while they're away. Unfortunately, its lack of features and excessive price means it doesn't stand up...

Contemporary styling ; Works with PSP

Lacks internal TV tuner ; Pricey ; Lack of input options ; Non-customisable on-screen remote

Conclusion The LocationFree has plenty going for it. Its design means it won't look out of place next to your existing AV equipment, and it works with the Sony PSP, and it comes in retail packs that include a portable display. Unfortunately, its price...

Sony LocationFree

Just when you were getting your head around the distinctly sci-fi concept of timeshifting used by personal video recorders, some bright spark came up with the idea of placeshifting.

If you've got a PSP and like the sleek styling of the Sony, you'll probably prefer LocationFree, despite its higher price tag. On balance, however, we felt the Slingbox's more open approach offered greater charms.

A nice idea, particularly for PSP owners, but it's ultimately too restrictive in comparison to the Slingbox

"Better than most people say!"

When I read the other articles about this on C|net I hesitated a little about buying it but decided to take the risk. When I first got it I did the setup for watching NetAv at home(and it was easy) but when I went to setup NetAv on-the-go it took me a...

It has a IR blaster (a remote control like thing) and it can stream basic cable as well as digital cable and satelite.

Only 1 person can be connected to it at a time and it comes with only 1 computer registration code!
