Toshiba HD-A30 review

It's only been about six months since we reviewed the second-generation HD-A20, but nevertheless, here we are on to the third-generation. Some things have chan...

Toshiba HD-A30

The Toshiba HD-A30 struggled through a few of our lab tests, but it delivered very good picture quality with most HD DVD and DVD movies.

Excellent image quality with most HD DVD and DVD videos. Selectable 1080p24 output via HDMI.

Half-resolution processing of 1080i video. No raw bitstream output of Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD lossless audio formats. No picture or video processing controls.

As I mentioned before, since it's an official HD DVD player, the Toshiba HD-A30 includes standard integrated features such as persistent storage (flash memory), dual video decoders for picture-in-picture, and an Ethernet connection that enables it to...

Toshiba HD-A30 review: Toshiba HD-A30

Toshiba HD-A30

Excellent image quality in 1080i and 1080p/24 mode; Ethernet jack for firmware updates; Dolby TrueHD decoding.

Image quality in 1080p mode disappointing; no analog multichannel outputs; not much of an upgrade over cheaper HD-A3.

The Toshiba HD-A30 is a solid third-generation HD DVD player, but for most people it's not worth the extra dough.

UltimateAVmag.com: Toshiba HD-A30 HD DVD Player

Hardly a week goes by that a big sale on HD DVD players from some mega-retailer or another doesn't make some screaming headlines. But it's been Toshiba's entry level, 1080i players that have lead that charge, with the HD-A2 getting famous overnight...

Best HD DVD image quality I've yet seen, 1080p/24 output, even with DVDs, Multichannel TrueHD decoding, Out of this world cost to value ratio

1080p/60 output compromised by poor deinterlacing, Standard DVD deinterlacing poor

s There are some ifs here. If you have HDMI switching with multichannel PCM capability and if you have a display that accepts 1080p/24, this player is an all-time blue light special. But even if you don't, if think you might upgrade at some point, it's...

Toshiba HD-A30 HD DVD Player

For those with HDMI switching that can handle 1080p video and multichannel PCM, the HD-A30 might just be the sweet spot for price and performance in Toshiba's HD DVD player line-up. It doesn't have multichannel analog outputs nor does it output TrueHD...

The Death of HD-DVD

Dont buy this product as is has gone the way of the Betamax

Players and Movies Going to be very cheap very soon

Toshiba announced it would discontinue the HD-DVD line as Blu-Ray has won the format war. So on the upside these movies will become very cheap, however you wont be able to find new titles after a month or two
