Toshiba HD-XE1 HD-DVD Player

Great high definition and DVD upscaling playback, impressive feature list

No 7.1 support, slightly lags at times, relatively expensive

While the HD-XE1 is without a doubt the best HD-DVD player on the Australian market, it's also the most expensive. Non-enthusiasts may find the HD-XE1's asking price a little high, and ultimately may be better served by a more affordable model.

Toshiba HD-XE1 review

Toshiba's flagship HD-DVD player is getting on a little by the standards of the modern market, but quality build and fine performance see it through

It’s got a few grey hairs but the XE1 is still one of the best HD-DVD – not to mention DVD – players for the cash

Toshiba HD-XE1 HD DVD Player

Toshiba's high-end HD DVD player offers a plethora of features and an attractive price.

The true home cinema enthusiast has probably been waiting for a player to arrive with HDMI 1.3, 1080p output and an Ethernet port. But what that early adopter probably didn’t expect was for all that to come at such an affordable price. The HD-XE1 is a...

Toshiba HD-XE1

For getting the very best out of HD-DVDs, you really can't go wrong with the Toshiba HD-XE1.

Solid picture quality ; Remote control ; Dolby TrueHD support ; Good-quality DVD upscaling ; Build quality

Blue lights everywhere ; Basic front panel display

While the HD-XE1 is a superb player, it's still worth pointing out that the format war between Blu-ray and HD DVD is still raging. Even with today's announcement by Paramount, HD DVD still has less studio support than Blu-ray, but there are still...

Toshiba HD DVD Player HD-XE1

We reviewed Toshiba's HD DVD HD-E1 a few months back and we were quite surprised with its video quality and affordability. Now, we take the Toshiba HD DVD HD-XE1 for a ride to see whether the extra hundred dollars that comes with the player's price tag...

Picture quality; tons of connectivity options; firmware updates; ease of use

Long remote control; big size; a little on the expensive side
