Sony PlayStation 4 (PS4)

Sony's PlayStation 4 is a sleek, powerful game console with an excellent controller and plenty of compelling titles.

Attractive, compact design. DualShock 4 feels much better than the Sixaxis or DualShock 3 controllers before it. Great streaming support. Many new features.

Most features require a PlayStation Network connection. Non-free-to-play multiplayer requires a PS Plus subscription. DualShock 4 lightbar can't be turned off.

Conclusions The Sony PlayStation 4 feels like a beefed-up PlayStation 3, and that's just fine. It has several new and useful features like sharing gameplay footage and handling multiple users at once, and the DualShock 4 is a fantastic upgrade over the...

Sony PlayStation 4 review

Seven years is a technological eternity. Yet the PlayStation 3 has sold well for that long, ever since DJ Fatman Scoop and Ludacris hosted its blowout launch event in New York City in 2006. At...

Fantastic controller ; Handsome console ; Simple, game-focused interface

Not enough great games yet ; Occasional worrisome performance problems ; Interface doesn't scale well for power users

The beginnings of a great console — but not yet a must-buy

PlayStation 4 review: fast, powerful, worth it

More Info48 hours with the PlayStation 4: gaming and first impressionsThe seven big little details we love about the PlayStation 4Sony PlayStati

Dramatic improvement over PS3 gamepad ; Clickable touchpad ; The best triggers on any gamepad

Terrible battery life ; Analog stick coating isn't grippy enough

The DualShock 4 is everything gamers wanted from Sony's next gamepad. Unlike the DualShock 3, we only have minor complaints for the PlayStation 4's controller. It's not simply a controller we'll "put up with" for the rare exclusive PS4 titles; it's one...

Sony PlayStation 4 Review

So I finally bit the bullet.

First-time-out faults aside, the PS4 has a lot of potential, and of the two next-gen consoles that have come out, the PS4 seems to be the leaner, meaner, slightly more powerful game console. If I gambled, I’d go with the PS4; it may not have all of the...

We have been waiting for next generation for a while now. While recent games like Grand Theft Auto 5 and The Last of Us show that the previous generation can still unleash visual masterpieces and enriched story-driven games. We always want the latest...

Sony serves up power and performance with the PS4

Great design, excellent build quality- Cutting-edge processor and graphics performance- Much improved OS and UI- DualShock 4 controller outstanding- Superb second-screen options with PS Vita, iOS, Android- PlayStation Plus great value- Expandable storage

Limited multimedia functionality at launch- Will take time for Sony to fully unlock its potential- Currently not a lot of must-have gaming titles

Sony PlayStation 4

New game consoles have arrived, and the PlayStation 4 is among the best gaming consoles we've seen. See what makes the PS4 a great option for new gamers.

The PlayStation 4 is focused on games, whether on disc or downloadable

This console does not support many multimedia files or apps at launch

The PS4 takes the crown as the best new gaming console because it offers the best gaming options such as remote play with the PlayStation Vita and free games with PlayStation Plus.

Sony PS4 review

PlayStation 4 is a fantastic console that's improved with age

Great performance ; PS Plus good value ; DualShock 4 is ace ; Excellent graphics ; Remote Play works

Media features lacking ; More apps needed ; No simple DLNA ; Lacks big exclusives

Ratings in depth Sony's Playstation 4 is without doubt the front-runner in today's battle of the consoles. At the last count it had shipped well over 24 million PS4s around the world, with the competing Xbox One from Microsoft has only been able to...

Sony PS4 review

The Sony PS4 has made its way to T3 Towers - we'll bring you our full review very soon. Meanwhile, here are our first impressions...

Powerful spec ; Great controller ; Stylish looks

Lack of exclusive games ; Not backwards compatible ; Media a bit light

While we've had a bit of a play with the PS4, it still too early to reach any definitive conclusions, although we have now played some of the games (see above) and checked out the UI and Share button.

PS4 vs Xbox One review

We're now over a year into the life of the Xbox One and PlayStation 4; a year in which the PS4 has surged ahead on sales, but the Xbox One has seen a turnaround in the way it's seen and, potentially, its fortunes. No other console generation has seen...

We hate to say it, but there is no right choice right now. The PS4 has raw horsepower on its side, but the Xbox One wins out on entertainment features. With Forza Horizon 2 and Halo: The Master Chief Collection, the Xbox One has the stronger software...
