Sony PlayStation TV

If you're a very specific type of retro gamer, the Sony PlayStation TV is the ideal microconsole for you.

Inexpensive. Very good backward compatibility with PlayStation Portable and PSOne Classics. Works with DualShock 3 and 4.

Doesn't output in 1080p. Vita game compatibility is limited. Mediocre media features.

The Sony PlayStation TV is an excellent device for a very specific audience: Gamers who want to play some classic console games or a small handful of modern portable games on an HDTV and who don't want to shell out for a current-gen home system (or...

The PlayStation TV is a small black box that connects to a television set via HDMI cable. Inside of that box are the guts of a PlayStation Vita handheld gaming system, and as such it can play PlayStation Vita games. It can also play PSP games, PS One...

Sony PlayStation TV review

Sony's tiny box of game-streaming tricks shows potential, but does it do enough to justify its price?

Absolutely tiny ; PS4 streaming works well ; Decent range of old games available

Not enough streaming services ; Too laggy for online multiplayer ; Vita games not fully optimised

The potential is there but PlayStation TV doesn’t yet do enough to justify its price tag

Sony PlayStation TV review: For the gamers

We've been waiting for the UK release of Sony's microconsole for quite a while. It was hinted that the PS Vita TV might make its way to regions outside of Japan at the end of last year - and now it's finally here, renamed the PlayStation TV, or PS TV...

A cheap console with access to tonnes of games, small and out of the way, PS4 Remote Play gives you access to your PS4 library to play in another room, simple to use

Only capable of 720p and stereo audio output, no video streaming services save for Sony’s own, many PS Vita games are not compatible at launch

If you own a PS4 then PS TV adds an all-new element to your set-up, one that enables you to carry on playing your favourite games via Remote Play, even after being kicked off the living room television in favour of Strictly Come Dancing. In addition,...

PlayStation TV: Sony's microconsole finally arrives (full review)

With the PlayStation 4, Sony already has a credible claim to conquering your living room with its do-it-all gaming and streaming entertainment box. Now the company is going after the other rooms in your home with the PlayStation TV.

PlayStation TV has an affordable starting price point, works with existing DualShock 3 and 4 controllers and can play hundreds of games. It also offers game streaming from a networked PS4 or via PlayStation Now, and a handful of video services

A surprising amount of content for PSTV is not available in HD, and the Vita's interface doesn't make a graceful jump to the big screen. Remote play is laggy in Wi-Fi mode and PSTV still relies on an expensive flash storage medium. Major streaming...

The PlayStation TV sounds great on paper, but out of the gate, it underwhelms as both a gaming and an entertainment box.

PlayStation TV review - Remote Play now for just £45

Remote Play is undeniably cool, and a new low price makes PlayStation TV far more tempting

Remote Play could be a killer app for the PS4, we hope that Sony comes to realise that, and unlocks its full potential and flexibility soon. In the meantime, the recent price cut for Remote Play makes it far more tempting and if you have a spare TV in...

Stream PS4 games

Limited support for older games

If you own a PlayStation 4 and are heavily invested in the PlayStation ecosystem, then Sony’s PlayStation TV may be a good fit for your home, especially if it stops fights over the lounge room. Unfortunately, the PlayStation TV becomes less attractive...

PlayStation TV can stream your PS4 games to another television

PlayStation TV is a handy way to extend the reach of your PS4 in your home but it has its limits.

There are a lot of people who are going to compare the PlayStation TV with Apple TV and the Google Chromecast but that would be like comparing a cat to a dog.
