Garmin Nuvi 200W Review

After living in New York City for 10 years, hopping on some train to get to some part of the city was such a mundane part of life that I never really appreciated it. Two months ago, my job required me to move to Boston, and in Boston I had my own car...

Garmin nuvi 200W review

UPDATE: A similar but newer model, the nuvi 205W, adds quite a few features, and has occasionally been selling for a little less than the 200W.

Garmin Nuvi 200W and 250W Widescreen Car GPS Navigators

As with televisions, consumers are looking for wide screen displays for their navigation devices. Garmin has delivered wide screen with the Nuvi 200W and Nuvi 250W. Both have a bright, sunlight readable 4.3-inch color touchscreen display with WQVGA...

Garmin 200W Personal Navigation Device - HardwareZone.com

Combining a great user interface with an affordable price, Garmin's latest 200W Personal Navigation Device is an entry-level device that should satisfy many.

Garmin nüvi 200W Sat-Nav

Garmin recently added widescreens to its 200-series line-up so Jon took this one for a test drive.

Likewise, the maps, which cover UK and Ireland here (the 250w adds European maps) are extremely clear and easy to read; better than TomTom's or Mio's in my humble opinion. Initially they look a bit cartoon-like with their bright colours and thick...

No Warranty

So so product with absolutely NO product support.

Product doesn't hold a candle to the Tom Tom for ease of use and updates

Garmin does not give any warranty. I had a 2 week old unit that they have had for 3 months and they will not repair it. Each time I contact them I get a different "specialist". Each time they want some extra info. I gave up and bought a Tom Tom

Most bang for the buck in GPS

Best GPS for the price. Garmin is the leader in GPS having 7 out of 10 in the top 10 GPS systems. You can't go wrong with this inexpensive Garmin and still know you have the best.

Price, performance, ease of use, downloadable info from Garmin website, great window attachment

Battery power which is the weakest link in all GPS systems

Kewl GPS! Not always the best, but...

It sometimes thinks I made a turn when I didn't (has to recalculate very often.) It's slow to recalculate more than often, takes me to dead end streets saying it goes through to another road when it doesn't. Wouldn't be able to update it if I didn't...

Does what it's supposed to do

Sometimes it wants me to go the wrong way on a one way street, but that's easy enough to figure out. Often it can't find satelite or loses satalite. (See more in bottom line summary.)

Easy, portable, and fast!

Overall, I think this device is a great value. It is light and easy to travel with, so easy to use that passengers can set it with very little help, and the graphics are very easy to see. The small wait you may have to acquire sattelites is SO much...

This GPS is one of the most user friendly devices I've tried. The menus are straight forward, the touch screen is responsive, and the directions are easy to follow. I've had no problems with sattelite reception in big cities

There is sometimes a small delay in acquiring sattelites, especially if it's overcast. The detour function is a bit tricky. I tried to detour around heavy traffic, but device kept rerouting me back to the road I wanted to avoid

fast, accurate for most of the time except some remote areas like cities or communites residing onn mountains

Not alot of support on the Garmin's web; want the map update ?, you got to pay for it
