DeLorme Earthmate GPS

Return to CNET's Bluetooth GPS receivers roundup .

Solid receiver; reasonably priced; can be worn on your belt or easily mounted in your vehicle.

Bulky; could use a style makeover.

The versatile Earthmate connects wirelessly to your PDA or laptop via a USB cable, but it misses the mark in the coolness category.

DeLorme Earthmate PN-30

The DeLorme Earthmate PN-30 is a stripped down version of the PN-40, bringing all the features of that popular model, except for the electronic compass and barometric altimeter. It includes the PN-40's dual-core processor for fast map redraws and...

DeLorme Earthmate PN-40

There has been a lot of talk that the PN-40 takes a little longer than some other handheld GPS systems to figure out. Navigating through all the different features can get a little daunting and there is not always a clear cut way of getting from one...

Ironclad reputation for getting reception in adverse conditions

The smallish screen may take some getting used to

This is the best all-around value for a recreational GPS.

Earthmate PN-40

Although it is not designed specifically as a road bike GPS , the Earthmate PN-40 has qualities that make it a great option for some cyclists. The best feature of the Earthmate outdoor and bike GPS

This is a rugged outdoor GPS that provides great features for biking. It is waterproof, runs on AA batteries and has a beautiful color display

The battery life of this GPS is only eight hours

Although this GPS is a great choice, it lacks the ability to provide important data like cadence, temperature and calories burned.

Paperweight for Windows 7

Holds down papers on my desk

Doesn't work with windows 7 and Delorme told me they have no plans to do so. If Delorme won't provide support for older devices then I won't provide financial support to them by purchasing any of their products again

Excellent Product with plenty of bells and whistles

I use and teach search & rescue, back country navigation from cub scout level all the way up to fire & police departments and the PN series of GPS's are by far my favorite to use and teach with. The PN-60w SE is by far the best I have ... Expand full...

Easy navigation with new screen icons. Light weight, Good battery life. Paired with the SPOT (w version of PN 60) is an awesome tool for keeping in touch back country. Love this product

Had to re-upload some aerial photo map selections when upgrading from Topo 8.0 to 9 but only took a short time

Good hardware, really poor software and support.

Would be a great product if properly supported and made more user friendly. Just to much of a headache to use and trace faults down on the forum instead of customer support. I suggest going with something else that is properly R&D'd prior to hitting...

Overwelming functions and has a lot of potential

Terrible support, miss-leading information provided by customer support, inadequate manuals for software (TOPO or PN-60 device) and software bugs. Forget about using it for driving navigation, too hard
