Cycling GPS Tells You Where You Are — and How You...

At Wired, we love cycling almost as much as we love melting the chrome off passing cars with our high-powered laser. Almost. But even the combustion crew

Garmin Edge 705 GPS

Type-A training tweakers, metrics maniacs, peripatetic two-wheeled geo-cachers and the geographically challenged now have something to collectively rally

Detailed maps and directions are spot-on. GPS reception is excellent even in heavily wooded areas. Software and web app integration are a boon to digit crunchers

Needs capability for more than three bikes. CD-ROM user manual needs more detail. Should come with a glare-free screen skin. Must run the battery all the way down before the first charge or you'll only get about three hours of use

Edge 705

As stated above, we are very impressed with the design and the feature set found in the Garmin Edge 705 bike GPS and cycle computer. The product is easy to use and provides excellent data and a beautiful color screen for you to take advantage of while...

The Garmin Edge 705 offers a beautiful color display and more features than any other bike GPS device

It doesn’t have a touchscreen or the ability to read temperature like many other Garmin cycle computers

Our top choice for bicycle GPS units, the Edge 705 is intuitive, well designed and has key features no serious biker would go without.

Garmin Edge 705

The Garmin Edge 705 might be a niche product designed for a specific crowd, but its small design and ample feature set make it a solid GPS choice for just about anyone.

Boasts great features like a heart rate monitor, street Navigation and 76 x 220 resolution color screen

You may want more flair than this all black exterior offers

Designed specifically for cyclists, but still a solid GPS choice for just about anyone.

Garmin Moving Backward

I have used the Garmin Foretrex 201 as my cycling computer for 6 years. It worked well but did not have a mapping capability. I purchased an Edge 705 to replace my older Foretrex. As a stand-alone cycling computer it is good. And it does mapping. But...

very bad experience

The Garmin Edge 705 has been a very frustrating experience. You seriously need an advanced degree in computer technology simply to start this device. The instructions are exceedingly poor and do not offer the simplest of guidance. The instructions are...

Garmin 705

Overall I am very pleased and would recommend this unit.

Great unit. Nice feedback of time, distance, speed, cadence, heartbeat ; Garmin Connect is a great tool ; Using MapMyRide and outputting in .tcx is useful in unknown areas to pre-plan rides

Expensive. Base maps are HORRIBLE. You must plan to spend more $ to get a full map ; Waypoints are not user freindly like other Garmin devices
