Garmin eTrex 20 review

The Garmin eTrex 20 is the mid-range model of three new units that bring a long-awaited update to the popular eTrex series, which now offers paperless geocaching, new customization options and BirdsEye aerial imagery capability.

Bright display ; Small size ; GLONASS for improved accuracy ; Paperless geocaching capability ; BirdsEye aerial imagery and US/Canada topo compatibility ; Advanced track navigation ; Garmin custom maps capability ; Customization options (dashboards,...

Small display ; Mapsets combined even though renamed from gmapsupp.img ; Distance to destination cycling and tracklog separation (and possibly the mapset issue) point to immature firmware ; No electronic compass or barometric altimeter ; No wireless...

Despite some early bugs, I like the eTrex 20, and think it will be a good first unit for all sorts of outdoors lovers. My quibbles with it are pretty minor, and Garmin has a good track record of fixing significant issues (although it can often take...

So far what I have used it for it has been a good little gadget. When I can finally afford a map (Starts at $75 dollars on Amazon, from Garmin they start at $100) and I learn all the features I am sure I will be much happier. I just wish I would have...

Great size I love the looks and lots of features that I did not expect

For a first time GPS user it is proving difficult to figure out on my own. Maps are ridiculously expensive

Garmin eTrex 20 Handheld GPS Navigator

I am a boat captain and I wanted this unit for my hobbies, sailing, fishing, hunting, geo cashing, bicycle riding and travel. I have used it a work and matched it to GPS units costing much more and it is just as accurate and actually easier to...

size, screen quality, ergonomics are excellent, easy to personalize

chart and map software is twice the price of the unit. Base map is very, very basic. Garmin site is not easy to use and doesn't give you much information about support products like maps and charts

I have only had this GPS for a week and have been out only once. So far I like it. It seems easy to use compared to what I had before.

Handy little unit

I upgraded to the Garmin eTrex 20 after owning both the eTrex H and eTrex Summit HC series GPS handheld units, and I have to say I am very impressed and happy with the unit. It has everything I need for camping, hiking and 4WDing, and with the purchase...

small, lightweight, compact, much easier to use than the old eTrex units. Multiple user profiles for different applications. Good technical support

No Barometic Altimeter. Sucks battery life when backlight is on. Can't be used in car with USB adapter.
