Garmin eTrex Legend HCx review

One of Garmin's newer eTrex H-series receivers, the Legend HCx updates the very popular Legend Cx. The “H” stands for high-sensitivity chipset, to ensure great satellite reception under canopy and in other situations where you have a limited view of...

I've had a chance to try out the Garmin eTrex Legend HCx recently. This is my first extended experience with an eTrex model since I purchased my first GPS — an eTrex Venture — many years ago.

Garmin eTrex Legend Cx Review

The Garmin eTrex Legend Cx updates the popular Legend C model by adding a micro-SD card slot for expandable memory (hence the "x"). This is a great upgrade, since the Legend C's 24 MB of internal memory was almost too small to effectively utilize City...

Garmin eTrex Legend HCx

The eTrex Legend HCx is a pretty safe bet if you are not too concerned about having an electronic compass and barometric altimeter. While these features will be missed by some people, this unit compares well to many GPS systems in many ways and has a...

This product has a reputation for ruggedness

Lack of barometric altimeter may be a drawback for some

This is an economical GPS unit well suited for many outdoor activities.

Great all-around GPS unit

Easy to use, lots of features, high sensitivity, micros SD storage, color

Battery life is a little low

Consumer review by:

Versatile--almost too versatile.

This is my first GPS, so I like it, but the manuals don't help much.

Basic navigation is easy. I figured out where we were on a hiking trip last weekend without a manual. The Cx means the Legend HCx can get signals even under trees

Attempt to be everything to everyone, which can be confusing. 7 main screens with two of those screens full of menu icons. Practice will be needed to understand this GPS. Manuals are sketchy

Need to improve on reception part

cant called it as PERFECT gps

its easy to use and handy

weak reception

Consumer review by:

Works well, but documentation is dreadful

The unit works well and may be more than adequate for geocaching, but for general use in the car or for walking it leaves much to be desired. Without knowing ahead of time what comes in the package, you may be surprised that the preloaded maps have...

Good sensitivity, reasonably easy to use

Too expensive for what you get, miserable documentation, almost deceptive packaging
