All in all this is one value for money GPS with decent navigational abilities

It is a compact GPS with decent navigation capabilities

It has weak signal receiving strength and also hangs sometimes

Very small and lightweight GPS unit

First off, I really like this Garmin unit. It is VERY small and lightweight, which is great for hiking and cycling. I mount mine on the handlebars (with optional bike mount kit) and use as a bike computer. I also snap this unit on the bars of my...

Very small, lightweight, decent tracking features, backlight

Weak signal when not exposed to sky

This is a great unit for the price

This unit is great for the price. Seems to be very quick to lock on to sats, and accurate to about 20 feet. Fits easily on your wrist, great for running, bikers, and anyone else who needs to have 2 free hands

Screens cannot be customized as much as some may need, battery life is a little week

Full-featured GPS on your wrist

With a street price of $129 this was an excellent buy. Has all the features of the Geko 201 unit, including WAAS and PC communication, in a device that can be strapped on your wrist like a watch

No built-in maps or ability to receive maps (but you can send routes and tracks to the device, which is sufficient for me), short battery life (use NiMH rechargeables; they last several times longer than alkaline)

Nice little hiking unit!

Small, light, and accurate... records up to 10,000 Lat/Long tracklog points very well

Save Track> function dummied-down to almost worthless. Very poor altitude accuracy

My Garmin Story: Trying to drown a Foretrex 101

Since the Foretrex 101 has been around for a while, and there are plenty of other reviews you can read, I thought I'd just tell a little story about mine. I've had it for about 3 years. The Foretrex (like all Garmin handhelds) is IPX7 waterproof,...

Seems a bit dated

Seems a bit dated

Was hoping for something a lot better than this. Display looks like 1980's technology, and it is pretty confusing to use. It takes a while for the satellites to connect & when they do, it is still a bit uncertain what to do next. I imagine there...

Product Specifications

The economical Foretrex 101 is the wrist-mount GPS that frees up your hands so you can focus on your outdoor activities. This product joins the Foretrex 201 in Garmin's growing line of wearable, wrist navigation devices. The Foretrex 101 has all the features and functionality of the Foretrex 201, including PC interface capabilities for downloading waypoints, tracks and routes, but operates on two AAA batteries. It's easy-to-use interface and basic GPS capabilities are perfect for outdoor enthusiasts who would rather replace the batteries than recharge the unit in the field. This unit features Garmin's intuitive operating logic, utilizing six dedicated buttons to simplify navigation. Whether it's a campsite, deer stand, or other place of interest, users can mark its location, identify the waypoint, and navigate to it later using the GoTo function. Also, with the help of Garmin's exclusive TracBack technology, users can retrace their steps by following an electronic breadcrumb trail back to their original starting point. Because the unit is waterproof, the Foretrex 101 is a natural companion on watersport adventures like kayaking, canoeing, boating and sailing. In fact, this device incorporates another feature found on the Foretrex 201: a sailboat-racing timer. Competitors can configure the countdown sequence prior to the start of the race and utilize their GPS location to be in the best possible tacking position when the race begins.
