Garmin Geko 201

Overall, you don't want to wander too far with this model. Some users have complained it does not work well at night or in the downtown city. One common complaint is that the power button switches on too easily and the battery life is short. There are...

Garmin Geko 201 and 301 Handheld Navigators Review

The Geko 201 and Geko 301, are simple, inexpensive, small, lightweight and waterproof (IPX7), WASS-enabled (10 feet / 3m accuracy) handled GPS trackers. They are not map based rather providing a means of keeping a log of your track and guiding you back...

Garmin Geko 201 Review

The Garmin Geko 201 GPS is one of the smallest, lightest weight handheld receivers available. A mere 2.3 ounces, this unit won't slow you down in the field. The primary differences between this and other Gekos is as follows — the 201 offers a data...

Basic, light and small

I liked this unit (before it got lost) because it was small, light and simple. I only use GPS to get coordinates / altitude and set / navigate to waypoints, so I never ran into battery issues.

Subject to the Y2K+10 bug

Subject to the Y2K+10 bug

The Geko 201 is apparently subject to the so-called Y2K+10 bug. For any time period after January 5th, 2010 (like now!) the GPS device incorrectly calculates the correct date. This results in an incorrect (dysfunctional) almanac which results in...

Four years old and still top of the line

Four years old and still top of the line

This is about the most perfect GPS ever made. I tried to replace it recently, but I couldn't find a newer model that offers what this model does. It's small, light, waterproof, and cheap. It also gives me a 10000-point tracklog and is easy to use. Maps...

Geko 201 Handheld GPS

This is my second Geko 201. I use the product primarily in confirming stopping points during trips to surface faclities of coal mines. The Geko fits conveniently in my shirt or jacket pocket. I have learned how to angle the screen of the Geko in my...
