Garmin Geko 201

Overall, you don't want to wander too far with this model. Some users have complained it does not work well at night or in the downtown city. One common complaint is that the power button switches on too easily and the battery life is short. There are...

Garmin Geko 201 and 301 Handheld Navigators Review

The Geko 201 and Geko 301, are simple, inexpensive, small, lightweight and waterproof (IPX7), WASS-enabled (10 feet / 3m accuracy) handled GPS trackers. They are not map based rather providing a means of keeping a log of your track and guiding you back...

Garmin Geko 201 Review

The Garmin Geko 201 GPS is one of the smallest, lightest weight handheld receivers available. A mere 2.3 ounces, this unit won't slow you down in the field. The primary differences between this and other Gekos is as follows — the 201 offers a data...

Great for the price

This is a great handheld gps unit for the price. Dont expect to get the features of a $300 unit but for camping, fishing, biking, and basic navigation it is perfect.

Consumer review by:

Basic, light and small

I liked this unit (before it got lost) because it was small, light and simple. I only use GPS to get coordinates / altitude and set / navigate to waypoints, so I never ran into battery issues.

Untitled Review

Unlike one other review of the Geko 201, I had great reception in all but the tightest, tree choked canyons. Most tree cover and cloud cover had no effect on the unit.

Geko 201: The Sweet Spot of Low-End GPS Receivers

I hardly go outdoors (in the wilderness I mean). I don't go camping. And I haven't gone fishing since I was 10. So, why would a guy like me get a GPS unit? I do a lot of traveling for work and find it really cool to mark off places where I have been. I...

Small, light, easy to use, inexpensive

No base map, short battery life, low res screen

Consumer review by:

Good GPS value.

I haven't had a chance to try it in "deep woods" yet, but it works in the car and most of the time even in the house. Can't imagine it having trouble under a few trees. Acquires fast, seems to be accurate. Shows 10 ft EPE often. Satisfied customer...

Size, price, accuracy, seems to be built tough

Power button, but it can be "worked around

Consumer review by:

Very Usable GPS especially when weight matters

I've used this a lot for hiking, XC skiing, backpacking, kayaking, driving & bicycling. It has worked well even in moderately dense NW forests. When combined with mapping software, it makes all sorts of route finding much easier. Logging information...

Lightest handheld GPS, easy to learn, the essential features, love the trip computer

Short battery life especially w/ NiMh, expensive accessories
