Excellent Component for NTPd / GPSd Projects

Highly recommended.

Exactly as other reviews state: PPS, and my units also did not require a factory reset. The length of the cable was approximately fifteen feet, and the box was sturdy ; If you're looking for a GPS antennae for an NTPd/GPSd backed time clock on your...

You will need the RS232 connector and a spare USB plug to complete this component (and a PC that takes serial) ; Soldering can be tough if you've never done it before, I'd highly suggest getting extras on the RS232 connectors if they're plastic and...

Excellent product!

If you want to make your own stratum 1 server you will most likely want a few of these: StarTech.com Assembled DB9 Female Solder D-SUB Connector with Plastic Backs My soldering skills aren't the best, and a shaky hand doesn't help - so get extras if...

Exactly as expected. Unit ships with an odd connector (4 thin wires, yellow - white - green - black; and 2 thick wires; red - black) ; Did not have to factory reset the unit as others had mentioned might be needed (on other sites). The receiver has a...

None, although for some reason newegg's price is considerably higher than others

Hardware is excellent; software only so-so

I would definitely buy the hardware again, but would take the time to find better software for navigation. It's a great way to get a GPS as well as a navigator for a lot less than a built in system, and the large screen on a laptop is much easier to...

The hardware part of the GPS 18 works wonderfully. I used it on a 3900 mile trip from Austin, TX to the Bitterroot Valley of Montana and was easily able to pull in at least 10 satellites most of the time with the sensor mounted to the inside of my...

The software, while decent, fails on several counts. On our trip from Austin, TX to Missoula, MT, sometimes the software behaved oddly. When traveling on I-27, several times it decided that we should leave the highway and take the access road, parallel...

First GPS

I have to read the manual one of these days.

I always wanted a GPS, but I didn't like the small screens. This GPS uses my laptop's screen which is much larger. The software loaded flawlessly. The receiver took a little while to initialize, but has no problems operating after initializing. A GPS...

Not sure why the initialization took a while, it locks on effortlessly now. It seemed to connect when I hit the talk button. The unit has so many features, I may not have done it correctly. I only studied the manual for a few seconds anyway.

GPS 18 USB

Fast and easy with USB hookup, even sensitive enough to use indoors. I put the unit inside the car with no problem.

NRoute software is not Vista compatible yet. Had to download Mapsourse to correct registry issue.
