Garmin GPSMAP 76

The Garmin GPSMAP 76 is probably Garmin's most popular entry-level marine handheld. This greyscale unit floats and can accommodate up to 8MB of added maps. Its pre-loaded basemap brings marine navigation aids, including lights, buoys, sound signals and...

Garmin GPSMAP 76

Garmin's GPSMAP 76 is a basic, relatively cheap and functional handheld GPS unit, although it has some drawbacks. Nevertheless, if you're an intrepid ...

Inexpensive, external antenna connection

Limited memory, slow performance, no direct USB connectivity, no electronic compass

Tried both picked 76 over SportsTrak Pro

Large screen, great software, feature, user friendly, rubber grips on back side (important for boaters to prevent sliding off the dash, fair to good battery life (depends on brand), anchor drag and tide charts work very well, all-in-all a good alternative

Keys on top - screen on bottom. Could use more flexability on screen layouts (but not bad)

waterproof

I never really got the hang of thi unit until it failed. I was on a kakak trip and noticed the battary compartment was very hot. Water had entered. Dried it out and put in new battaries but still no go.

Seems ok

The battary compartment leaked in salt water and now the thing does not work at all. I suspect Newegg will send me another one and I can evaluate it. Just don't rely only on a gps on your venture

Older GPS still does the job

Just because it's not a color screen, some would look down on this GPS, but that is short-sighted. The large screen has good contrast; easy to read. The only short-coming is the 8MB of memory. I'd like to load the more detailed maps, but I can still...

Easy To Read, Easy To Set Up, Long Battery Life, Reliable Performance, Strong Construction
