Garmin Nuvi 50 GPS receiver

Garmin's new 2012 line of GPS devices leads off with what the manufacturer calls its "Essential" series of entry-level navigation devices. By "Essential," Garmin means everything you need to get from point Alpha to Bravo. Things that you need include...

The Garmin Nuvi 50 features a large screen and an easy-to-use and easy-to-understand interface. Text-to-speech-spoken street names and colorful maps also aid user friendliness.

Text and graphics appear pixelated upon closer inspection. The dashboard mounting disc and USB sync cable are not included in the box.

Garmin's formula for entry-level GPS devices doesn't change much with the new Nuvi 50, but small tweaks, a lower price, and a massive screen enhance value.

Garmin nuvi 50LM

The Garmin nüvi 50LM is the top of the line navigator in Garmin's new 2012 Essential series, offering a 5” wide screen and lifetime map updates. The models in this series are meant to be basic navigators at a budget price, lower than what we've...

No powered mount ; Cannot add a traffic receiver ; Can only hide Trip Log; cannot clear it without resorting to a hard reset ; Only includes maps of 48 states (although a version that adds Alaska, Hawaii and Canada is also available)

Highly recommended. This is without a doubt the best entry level navigator Garmin has ever released. It has an ultra-wide 5” screen along with features previously restricted to mid-range units. You can't hardly go wrong with this one.

Garmin Nuvi 50LM

The Garmin Nuvi 50LM proves that you don't have to spend a small fortune to get a high-quality navigation GPS. While it is light on many extra features, the maps and instructions are better than many other devices on the market. The 50LM has most of...

Despite its low price, this navigation GPS includes several high-end features

There are no traffic updates, and you cannot attach a traffic antenna to alert you to jams or congestion

If you would like to get a navigation GPS for your vehicle, but don't want to spend hundreds of dollars, the Garmin Nuvi 50LM delivers high quality at a low price.

Garmin Nuvi 50

The Garmin Nuvi 50 is an entry-level GPS navigation system with a 5-inch touchscreen that has text that is large and easy to read. It also has text-to-speech and detailed maps, so don't count it out just because of the cheap price. Garmin did, however,...

This is the most worthless Garmin GPS I have ever seen.

I have always been a satisfied Garmin GPS customer with all the previous models I have owned until this one. With all of the choices for GPS navigation out there such as smart phones, tablets, laptops and built in GPS systems in newer vehicles you...

It turns on when you plug it in

It can not find any town that does not have a Zip Code which means that there are hundreds if not thousands of small towns it can not find, because when you try to type the town name in it does not show it! Points of Interest are VERY limited also

Product is very good until it fails

Garmin typically makes good GPS receivers. However, I would recommend a different model than the nuvi 50 and perhaps a company that has better customer service

Very accurate maps and under normal circumstances a fast satellite connection. Good battery life. Interface is user friendly as well

Bad customer support ; Product has loading issues and will not load past the boot up screen about 1year after purchase and will only work unplugged ; I emailed customer service and they sent me directions to a website that did not work

Great product

I like the ease of use and that I have an option to take toll roads or back roads. I use it a lot even when I know where I'm going just so I have an estimated time of arrival so I can let others know when I should be there.

Screen is large enough to see even without my reading glasses, but doesn't get in the way of driver's line of vision ; Very easy to use ; I like that I can turn the volume off if I'm just using it for an ETA to my destination

Would prefer the charger connection to be either on the side or on the bottom. Having it in the back is inconvenient if you have to plug in while driving

Great GPS Unit

Big, Screen, Fast satellite tracking, very easy to use. Had a Tom Tom before had to throw it away. It told me I had arrived at my location white I was driving 75 mph on the freeway

None so far

Okay but if it fails, GOOD LUCK!

The hardware itself crapped out for no apparent reason. It just froze in the opening "loading" screen and never went back to normal. No matter if it was restarted or plugged in/unplugged, it would never come back. Trying to sync it with computer...

works well and accurate. clear directions and turn-by-turn. screen is easy to read when mounted on windshield

defective hardware that will drive you nuts

Happy with product.

Very easy to use. It has saved me more than once ; I think the price is very fair

Doesn't take into account road construction, won't take no for an answer
