Garmin Nuvi 255W review: Garmin Nuvi 255W

Editors' note: The following review is of the Garmin Nuvi 205W . The 255W is identical to the 205W in nearly every way, except that the 255W features a text-to-speech function that reads street and points of interest (POI) names aloud and is preloaded...

The Garmin Nuvi 255W features a large touch screen and an easy-to-understand interface. Start-up, destination entry, and trip routing and rerouting times are slightly faster than the competition. "Where am I?" feature is very useful for emergencies....

The Nuvi 255W's feature set is rather limited. Mounting cradle is bulkier than competing models and not very portable.

As entry-level GPS navigators go, the Garmin Nuvi 255W is still one of the best choices available for anyone who wants speedy performance without breaking the bank.

Budget car GPS

In real-life use, owners say the Garmin nuvi 255W is a reliably fast, efficient navigator -- more so than newer, fancier Garmin models. Experts say the nuvi 255W offers the two most important extra features, too: an easy-to-see widescreen and spoken...

Widescreen, speaks street names, fast routing and mapping

Garmin Nuvi 255W GPS Review

Garmin is one of the best-known, leading competitors in the GPS market, and the Garmin Nuvi 255W is the next in the classic Nuvi line. It is a fairly basic, inexpensive model, but functions efficiently - it's good at what it does.

Garmin nüvi 255W

The nüvi 255W from Garmin is vastly popular GPS and for good reason, it's priced to sell and offers a great user interface. A five hour battery life and smooth 3D or 2D maps. The screen which is one of …

Garmin Nuvi 205W, 255W Full Review

The Garmin Nuvi 205W/255W were announced earlier this year and are quickly taking their place as solid entry level units in the Garmin line-up. The Nuvi 205W/255W offer a series of new tweaks that I have quickly come to appreciate and enjoy.

Garmin nuvi 255 review

The Garmin nuvi 255 is one of Garmin's entry level navigators and, like the rest of the nuvi 2×5 series, it is loaded with features previously unavailable in the nuvi line or found only in high-end models. Before we get into those though, let's look at...

Garmin nuvi 255W review

The Garmin nüvi 255W is one of Garmin's entry level navigators and, as part of the nuvi 2×5 series, it's loaded with features previously unavailable in the nuvi line or found only in high-end models. More about that in a moment; first the basics.

The Garmin nuvi 255W is a joy to use. I recommend it, or any other member of the nuvi 2×5 series, without hesitation. Garmin has set a new standard with this product line; the nuvi 2×5 series is the best entry level GPS on the market.

Garmin nuvi 255

Compact GPS ideal for consumers on a budget

Compact design, ease of use and operation, Where Am I help menu, Australian text-to-speech voices, preloaded speed and red light camera alerts

No Bluetooth, no FM transmitter, speaker volume lacks punch, unorthodox address input method, sluggish start-up time, average display

Although it doesn't offer any advanced features like Bluetooth, the nuvi 255 features text-to-speech technology and provides a solid combination of excellent navigation and ease of use. If you can afford to splash out a bit extra though, we highly...
