Garmin nüvi 40LM GPS receiver

Design The Nuvi 50 is built around a 5-inch WQVGA (480x272 pixels) color screen with resistive touch sensitivity.

The Garmin Nuvi 50 features a large screen and an easy-to-use and easy-to-understand interface. Text-to-speech-spoken street names and colorful maps also aid user friendliness.

Text and graphics appear pixelated upon closer inspection. The dashboard mounting disc and USB sync cable are not included in the box.

Garmin's formula for entry-level GPS devices doesn't change much with the new Nuvi 50, but small tweaks, a lower price, and a massive screen enhance value.

Garmin nuvi 40LM

The Garmin nüvi 40LM is a 4.3” navigator in Garmin's new 2012 Essential series. The models in this series are meant to be basic navigators at a budget price, lower than what we've previously seen for Garmin entry-level models. Nevertheless, they do...

No powered mount ; Cannot add a traffic receiver ; Can only hide Trip Log; cannot clear it without resorting to a hard reset ; Only includes maps of 48 states (although a version that adds Alaska, Hawaii and Canada is also available)

Highly recommended. This is without a doubt the best entry level navigator Garmin has ever released. It has a generous 4.3” wide screen along with features previously restricted to mid-range units. You can't hardly go wrong with this one.

Useless! Get something else or use a phone

The touchscreen works well

And you're gonna need it, because it doesn't have voice recognition for spoken destinations. I knew about that, but thought that it wouldn't be that much of problem, until I found myself having to pull over somewhere to type in a new destination. Get...

Good upgrade from nuvi 205

After reading all the reviews, I was a bit worried when I got the nuvi 40LM as a gift. But after a test run home & a trip to Baltimore, MD, it got my to the desired destination without any major problems. Good GPS for the first time buyer, or someone...

Large screen ; Bright screen ; Clear voice directions ; Split screen at major intersections

Battery live can be a bit longer ; Screen sometimes is slow to refresh ; Question it's logic on the routes is sends me on ; Touchpad doesn't always work on the first try

Worst Ever - Do Not Buy

Have spoken with tech support numerous times. The Garmins we purchased always trying to get us to exit and takes us on less traveled often impassable back roads. Or slow moving side streets. Ultimately increasing the time or danger levels. If you are a...

NONE - Oh - cute little voices and icons you can download

Major flaw in routing. Takes off major safe highways onto dangerous rural roads and mountain passes. Refuses to stay on major highways ; Has choices for shortest time, or shortest distance, (off-road ???). Has no option for most use of highways (like...

Good replacement for 255w

Except for no bluetooth that I never used this is a fine replacement for my 255w whose battery died. It does far better than the 1300 I ordered by misjudgment. Has all the features I need, including Canada, speed limit display, plus a new feature that...

GARMIN nuvi 40LM

The device itself works as expected

In this day and age, the map update software is an absolute joke. Maps appear to be multiple gigabytes in size, but I can't really be sure because it doesn't display the download size or speed. All I know is that I allowed it to download for 8 hours...
